Yeh if they get promoted it makes it harder for the chiefs

If I was London I would be trying to keep jd long term that would help keep them over there

But png will be offering way more money if they are good not to mention tax free

And you’re right London are going up for sure they are going good
tax free is for australian citizens only...

"They’ve got a brand new stadium, and there has always been a lot of great rugby league talent out of there. There is enough talent in New Zealand to build a majority home-grown team,"

That was JT today.. racist bastard.

Sorro to Perth Bears chat. Starts around 15mins 15secs mark.

Looks like @Red&BlackBear is right with Sorro potentially having a gig after footy there. That tidbit was flagged here first I didn't see it anywhere else before he mentioned it yesterday.

Gardiner open to reuniting with Panther that 'any club would want'

By Nicholas Quinlan

With the Perth Bears continuing to flesh out their list for their inaugural season, assistant coach Ben Gardiner has spoken on the possibility of reuniting with one of his former players from the Panthers.
As their entry into the NRL nears, the speculation on who will feature in their side has grown.

Despite a slow start to signing players, their list has slowly gathered momentum in the new year, having signed Storm duo Nick Meaney and Tyran Wishart, alongside Bulldogs forward Josh Curran, amongst other names.
And while they missed out on signing Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, one name that could be on the verge of signing is Scott Sorensen.

The four-time premiership player, who comes off contract at the end of the season, has reportedly been offered a two-year contract to play under Mal Mengina and Gardiner.

The Samoa coach and second rower worked together at Penrith, which saw them win the 2023 and 2024 premierships.
When asked about the possibility of Sorensen joining the club, Gardiner was complimentary of his experiences, believing he would be an asset to any club.
“I had a great relationship with him at Penrith,” Gardiner said on SEN’s Front Office with Vossy.
“I learnt a lot about him. He’s a great talker; he’s a great person to have around the club. A real leader for young guys. We used to call him the godfather of the left edge.

“He’s a guy that any club would want to have in and around (it).

“Hopefully, along the way, Perth are lucky enough to have a conversation with Scott to make that happen.”
The Bears currently have 13 players signed to their list. They’ll enter the competition in 2027.

Can’t wait to see some talented wa jnrs run out for Perth but in reality it’s going to take a few years, and until then we need to sign the best talent we can find from wherever we can find it! Like every other club is doing.

meanwhile Sorenson be a solid signing.

KEY POINTS

  • The Perth Bears are closing in on a deal to sign Cronulla utility Sifa Talakai

The Perth Bears are set to sign their first State of Origin player, with Sifa Talakai confirming he was leaning towards taking up a three-year offer with the new NRL franchise.
Talakai said a move west appealed not only because it offered the chance to set up his family financially – he and his partner welcomed their fourth child last month – but also as Perth held sentimental appeal, since it was where he made his NRL debut and played his first Origin game for NSW.

The 28-year-old said he hoped to make a call by the end of the week, and there would be plenty of emotions if it was his final year in the Shire.
“It’s something my partner and I have been talking about, and we know it’s a great opportunity – why wouldn’t you want to go over there and be a founding member as well,” Talakai told this masthead.

“It’s going to be hard to get a deal done here at Cronulla. If I had the opportunity to stay, I would, but it’s not about me any more. It’s about what’s best for me, my partner and my family.
“I don’t want to stand in the way of any players coming through. I’m definitely entertaining the Perth deal.”

Bears coach Mal Meninga has long been a fan of Talakai’s versatility, but told the 28-year-old he would predominantly be used as a middle forward. Meninga has made it clear to Talakai and other signing targets a move to Perth is a “life decision”.
Being posted on the other side of the country with a young family was not a concern, said Talakai, and “my partner and I are at the stage we can hold our own”.

“I haven’t had the chance to go over there, but Perth holds a special place in my heart because it’s where I debuted for South Sydney in 2016, and I played my first Origin game with the Blues in 2022,” Talakai said.

“When I’ve had to think about the contract situation, and when going back and forth with my manager and partner, and looking back through the years, it kind of brought me to tears. Even speaking now, I feel like I’m getting emotional. This place gave me everything I’ve got now. They gave me a crack when nobody else did.
“I’m really grateful to the Sharks. If they wanted me to go to hell and back to help secure a premiership, I’d do it without thinking twice. I want to leave no stone unturned, whether this is my last season or not. I’ll be giving it a good crack.”
Talakai can play in the middle, an edge and even the centres, where he terrorised rivals with his leg speed and nuggety frame.

The Bears have already landed several NRL regulars, including Toby Sexton, who is spending the year in the south of France with Catalans before returning to Perth, Melbourne pair Tyran Wishart and Nick Meaney, Canterbury’s Josh Curran, while Penrith and New Zealand international Scott Sorensen has also been linked to the Bears.

He'd be a great signing!! but a little concerned about how much they intend on spending on and outside back. He alluded to it being a good financial decisions for his family, so it's big overs.

Still, good news!

In other good news for the Bears, Wishart has been named at Halfback for the Storm. Classy of Bellamy to still be giving him quality opportunity even though he's leaving.
Panthers are a little more cut throat, neither Sorensen or Henry named- might be a good thing.. meaning they are already locked away for round one, we'll see I guess.

Where would you like to see him play ?, wing, centre, 2nd row or bench ?.
His days in the centres are gone.

For mine he is an out and out 13. You can play him 2nd row on an edge but he is so damaging through the middle but to be fair he is out wide as well. Bench is an easy option but I wish we started him and played him more. There must be a reason we don't but I can't see it. Love him - great player.

marto sorro henry garner all carrying niggles.
mclean rested

Panthers don’t drop guys who are moving on. If they did then half the squad from 2021 on wards would have been dropped…….. nothing to see there at all.

K speaketh the truth.
Sifa is best in the middle these days.
On the edge if he has to but in the middle is where he causes most having nowadays.
I'd say Perth's offer is something he can't refuse. He does love the Sharks, but hey 3 years on a very good deal can change a man's mind on whom he loves.

I'd disagree with that. He's a damaging ball carrier but making him defend in the middle will blunt that instrument.
Play him in the middle and say goodbye to those damaging carries coming out of trouble.

If it ain't broke!!
