Bears keen to step in if Storm succumb
ADRIAN PROSZENKO
April 23, 2010

THE Central Coast Bears claim they will be ready to fill the breach by 2011 should the salary-cap scandal engulfing Melbourne force them out of the NRL. With a question mark over the Storm following yesterday's revelations, Bears boss Greg Florimo insisted they could assemble a team in time for next season.
''We would be ready,'' Florimo said night. ''The biggest challenge is that we haven't got the players, but we would make sure that we got them. It would be difficult to get the blue-chip players you want in such a short time but we'd rise to the challenge.
'''We've only got a small staff at the moment and we'd obviously have to expand at a rapid rate as a business, but we certainly have the planning and the model to do that.''
The North Sydney Bears are attempting to rejoin the league as a Central Coast side in Gosford in 2013. They have already taken several important steps, including signing Mortgage House on a multi-million sponsorship deal, appointing David Fairleigh as coach and opening a head office on the Central Coast. They also have a purpose-built stadium in Gosford as their home venue.

Figured they would be straight into it. If the Storm do fold, they should be able to pick up a few players in the off season.

Melbourne must stay.

It's the only way will ever get the TV money we deserve.

We cannot afford to ditch another expansion club.

Without the Storm there is no NATIONAL rugby league, no billion dollar TV rights contract and AFL becomes the dominant national football code.
That would be the worst outcome of all this and everything must be done to make sure they survive.

The Bears team seem like such vultures. As soon as a team is in trouble they hang around the carcas looking to get a piece.

Conspiracy theories begin - perhaps this is all News Ltd driven to lower the next media deal $$$$ - all very timely

If any team was dumped so unceremoniously like the Bears were, they too would be there to take the spot of any NRL team that tripped up. Personally, I hope the Melbourne brand survives but if they don't, I think the Central Coast Bears is a great venture ready to go.

Regardless of whether the Storm survive this mess or not, if News Ltd screw us again on the pay TV money and pay those mincing AFL fairies more money for less games then they can shove their foxtel right up their clackers. Who is with me?

i personally don't want to see the Storm go, but Flo can say anything he wants, why should we hold back and miss out on a news story to promote the CCB's?

and Berkeley, the CC local- you are threatened [again!] because you'll feel the need to support the bears, don't fight it anymore.

If the Storm are ditched at the end of the season, they need to be back in 2013 with Perth.

No ifs ands or buts.

The game won't survive without a presence in Australia's 2nd and 4th largest markets.
