Beattie cops one week suspension
August 3, 2004
MELBOURNE forward Danny Williams will be the only player to front the NRL judiciary tomorrow night after Cronulla's Chris Beattie and North Queensland centre Josh Hannay entered early guilty pleas today.
Williams' striking case was adjourned two weeks ago after the Storm claimed the veteran forward was suffering post-traumatic amnesia when he king-hit the Wests Tigers' Mark O'Neill.
Judiciary chairman Greg Woods postponed the hearing to give NRL prosecutor more time to respond to the Storm's controversial defence.
Williams, 29, could face a suspension of up to 18 weeks if found guilty tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Beattie today pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw and will miss the NRL club's game against the Sydney Roosters this weekend.
Beattie pleaded guilty to a grade one offence.
He was charged after a tackle on Brisbane centre Brent Tate in the 41st minute of Saturday night's game at Toyota Park, won 16-12 by the Broncos in golden point extra time.
North Queensland centre Josh Hannay also pleaded guilty to a grade two careless high tackle.
However, he will not accrue enough penalty points to be suspended, clearing him to play against the Bulldogs at the Sydney Showground on Sunday.
