The other day I was visiting my outlaws in Marrickville, to my amasement there was a guy who left the house and beeped his horn to say good bye, well he got booked for $120, I also beep my car horn to say good bye, this is a tradition i learned from my father. I can't believe you can get booked for that.

Yeah it’s always the motorist, that pays, You can fine a lot more people jaywalking on the Main Street on Marrickville (Marrickville Rd).
I wish they would pay more attention and fine the irresponsible delivery drivers on bikes who break just about every road rule in the book and even use the foot paths for their own speed ways. The top end of King St Newtown around El Jannah is one of the hot spots they could make up their quota in 5 mins,

Because cars kill, and jaywalking is a bullshit concept invented by car companies

Yes, I believe in the customary toot to say goodbye.
Unfortunately, I believe it's still an offence to use the horn unless it's an emergency. It used to be in the road rules exam to get your licence.
For me, that was over 50 years ago 😂

I read years ago that this is the case. As I've never heard anything to the contrary, I still believe it to be true.

But I still give a little pip to say goodbye when I'm leaving a family member's or friend's place.

You'd have to be very unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time for a police officer to hear it, and for them to be an absolute arsehole to book you for doing it.

Agree, it's nearly Constitutional to give a polite toot.
If someone in front of me is not concentrating and hasn't seen the lights turn green, do we just sit and wait and miss the lights?
What police could have done in the ops case, is let the horn offender go and turn back to attend to the pedestrian who was knocked over and is unconcious.

Yeah it’s much better to cop a light toot when you are stuck in traffic texting away.

My ex cop mate thought his assignment fining J walkers was completely f**ked up.

He didn’t mind the speed pursuit, the rush he got, but hell would freeze over before he fined a family tooter. He’d probably toot them goodbye as well!

Good and bad in all professions I guess.
