Bell in doubt for opening Ashes Test
Sportal

In-form England batsman Ian Bell is in doubt for the first Ashes Test after being hit on the wrist in a net session by teammate James Anderson.

Bell, who made 135 in the tourists' most recent match against South Australia, ceased batting immediately after the incident and was taken to hospital for x-rays on his left wrist.

With less than 48 hours before the much-anticipated series begins, Bell's participation in the first Test must be in some doubt. The news comes after opening batsman Marcus Trescothick went home with a stress-related illness last week.

Paceman Steven Harmison has been battling a side strain which ruled him out of the match against South Australia, but he is expected to be fit.

from the current squad if he could not play would you replace him with Ed Joyce or play both keepers

Joyce is in the 16 but would not be in the top line up
Strauss
Cook
Bell
Pieterson
Collingwood
Flintoff
Jones
would have been the batting line up.the only other batsman in the squad are Read and Joyce

Michael Vaughan is in Aust

Haha, just what I was thinking. But I think Bell will play. Scans showed nothing, he'll lose strength in his wrist for a bit, but I don't think he'll be too troubled by it.

Bell is great for Australia. Bring Warne on and he'll be gone quicker than you could make a coffee!

Would be a blow losing Bell looks like he has improved. Either way hes experienced an Ashes at least, he goes and only Strauss has played an Ashes match in the top 4!

Doesn't England have a virtual backup squad playing grade cricket in Perth anyway to keep up match fitness? Or did that plan amount to nothing?

whatever happened to him

Last county season yielded him 956 runs from 16 outings at 36.76.

Hardly enough to earn a test recall.

a good first class player but very poor technique and got found out at test level

far too much head movement and poor footwork
