Hayne isnt rated as a fullback for rep games, look at the all stars game didnt rate him, the Australian team didnt rate him and nsw dont rate him.

Fullback needs to have some defense and be able to read plays and consistent, hayne is a bit lazy and will let more trys in then he will make or score.

Hayne is a specialist winger who can inject himself more into the game from the wing .

Watch much footy?

Oh wait - it's Gaba. The question answers itself.

All these morons who think Hayne isn't a good defensive fullback :?

Just go play the tape of his games at FB for Parramatta - he is very strong defensively. Far superior to Kurt (I stand too deep and suck defensively) Gidley.
And even the extraordinarily biased Andrew Johns stated that Gidley isn't even in the same ballpark as Hayne when it comes to attacking options from the fullback position.

at least the 'plan' is to switch Hayne back there during the game. Let's just hope it happens in the first half, give Ennis a rest for 10 before halftime, bring him back on 10 after and bench Gidley after halftime. I don't see any positive prospect with Kids slotting into the dummy half position; he doesn't offer enough from the FB spot in either attack or defence, and has proven time and again that he is not an Origin level player. But of course he's captain :?

Hayne ? yeah he has been playing well and it's his position at club level.
Tahu ? still finding his feet back in league, for every big hit he misses 2 tackles.
Idris ? should be starting or not at all.
Gallen deserved to be there, Lyon should be in the centres, Gidley should be on the bench.
Loyality is one thing but some of the players who played game 3 last year aren't in the form they where then. And Qld had nothing to play for in game 3 the form should have been wiped.
my team-
1. Hayne
2. Morris
3. Lyon
4. Jennings
5. Burt
6. Campese
7. Kimmorely
8. Weyman
9. ennis
10. White
11. Watmough
12. Gallen
13. Lewis
bench
14. Gidley
15. Waterhouse
16. Perry
17. Mason

If you want to get serious take Watmough out of the team the guy has been absolutely sh!thouse this year.. I'd go for Minichiello or Laffranchi ahead of him.

I think Watmough would lift big time, but would be better as impact off the bench.

I just don't get the omission of Gallen. Yeah, he's a slug but that's no reason to not pick him.

Why do people insist on solely bagging Daley when these selections come up?

There are 3 other selectors and Daley isn't even chief.
I said the 'selectors' need to be sacked, well I actually said 'sectors'. I didn't single him out for the sack. I actually think the clowns that have left the selectors in there for so long should go as well.

The Daley comment was just thrown in because he is the biggest idiot in the game, the guy is a moron. When he isn't being biased towards his favourite teams and players, and against the teams and players he doesn't like, he just makes captain obvious statements.

Plus Daley was the moron that didn't want Kimmorley in the Country team last year, which caused 2 selectors to quit. Then after being embarrassed and losing the SOO for the 4th straight time, Daley and the selectors caved in to the fans and put Kimmorley in for game 3, NSW won of course. So he can play halfback in a winning SOO team yet Daley the twit didn't want him in the country team, goes to show how great he is at recognising the talent that it takes to win games.

So yeah, I wonder why Daley gets mentioned more than others.

You should really watch some more games yourself, not just ones that involve Parra

Gidley is an excellent defender at the back, he saved no less than 3 tries with his 2nd line defence against the Broncos and is rarely caught out of position. Hayne is not as good as Gids in either of these departments just yet.

Hayne is an excellent runner of the footy and brings pace and size but his style of unstructured play would be shown up at Origin level. He is far more effective on the wing in rep games

Lyon admitted he wanted to play centre, so if thats the case why pick him at five eighth? He's only a fill in five eighth at best.

There are three genuine ball playing, add in kicking game five eighths who play in that position in the whole of NSW. Soward, Campese and Barrett. Those were your choices. So Bird, Lewis, Lyon, Carney etc etc all got looked at. It just doesnt make sense.

NSW seem to still believe that they have Andrew Johns playing half back and it doesnt matter who they play at five eighth.

Here's a f**king hint NSW selectors. Queensland have a great hooker, a great full back, a great five eighth and a great half back.

If you havent got those, then dont bother.

You need the best players in the position they represent, not to pick someone and hope he can plug a gap. That might work when you're playing NRL against inferior opposition. That wont work against Queensland.

Gidley should be the only half on the bench. Carrying Idris so you can bring him to centre, move Tahu to the wing, place Hayne at full back and Gidley to dummy half and Ennis to the bench. Musical f**king chairs against the best players on the planet in the middle of a game? Tell me that makes sense.

This post makes an awful lot of sense

I don't think, after 4 straight series losses, anyone is going to be completely happy with the team.
And I mean, it's a little bit dramatic because you guys do this every year and yet despite Queensland winning they've never had a clean sweep and most of the games have been close.

The teams aren't obviously as terrible as some would portray them.
However....

Lyon at 5/8? Why pick this guy when a) He has a lukewarm personality about rep football and b) He is MUCH better at center than 5/8.
Someone like Carney could have gone in this spot and provided some spark.
The only reason I can think they've put Lyon at 5/8 is because of last year's too many cooks debacle in game 2.

Basically meaning he'll play a 5/8 but it leaves room for the other guys to do the attacking, he's also solid here and won't make too many mistakes.

Gidley at the back? Well....obviously Gidley is getting one last chance to captain and start for the Blues.Pity some of the other previous NSW players didn't get as much of a chance.
I believe Gidley should be in the team, but not at fullback and he's not a captain....I don't think he even wants to be captain himself.

Idris? Uh......I have no idea LOL.
Fair enough if you're going to select a bolter, but a center (when there's a few spares already) and one that has suspect defense in club football?

The rest of the squad is fine, and I doubt it's Queensland by 40 or whatever some are saying. The fact is momentum will swing eventually and more importantly arrogance is already in the Queensland camp...so who knows.

Unfortunately for your attempt at an argument, I have watched 'more games myself'.

If you think Gidley is better in defence, then it's a clear sign you can't interpret what is put in front of you.. He is not.

To suggest that Hayne's 'style of play' would not work at Origin level is also a grossly negligent statement. Just go back and watch him make a clean break returning the football down the middle of the field IN ORIGIN. Have you ever seen Hayne play a rep game at fullback? No - that's because Slater has maintained his spot for Australia (fair enough), and because the NSW selectors lack a brain cell to share.
Oh - and even the half-brain dead selectors seem to disagree with you - their PLAN is to have Hayne shuffle to fullback halfway through the game once Idris comes on.

There is a player whose style of play is not suited to Origin level, and that is Kurt Gidley. He hasn't delivered from the FB spot, makes stupid errors, and for some unknown reason is even picked in the side - let alone made captain.

Even Andrew Johns (Gidley's most ardent home town supporter) suggested that Hayne would be fullback for the Blues next year.
But one wonders, if you can say Hayne should be fullback next year based on his overall game, why is he not picked there THIS year?

He'll probably be there game 2 after we lose the first...

He has had a tough month for sure Bellamy, been called a cheat, coaching a team for the year that will not play in the semis regardless of form, lost a couple of comps and gets lumbered with some old hacks like Kimmorley, Tahu and co.
Tahu must be rooting the selectors, he has been shown up by a few other centres this year..Idris and Matai for starters.
Inglis will use Tahu as doormat.

Wonder what the selectors do when deciding the team...

Just one quick look at the QLD side and you know they've taken into consideration form and all that and its a good quality side. NSW as 1000x more players to choose from and we always get it wrong it seems.

Then again add Joey Johns to any NSW post 2005 and I garuntee we would have not lost 4 in a row.

This blows. Prepare yourself for another defeat boys. We have a mediocre team that we will be crossing our fingers with a hope to god they can produce some quality and magic.

QLD? It's hard for them not to pick a great team, they are solid gold and they will run over us like a bulldozer. I predict us trying to stop an embarrasing defeat yet again. in the middle stages of first half. The selectors have really done a number this year, ignorant, arrogant fools IMO.

How would you know? He has never played a Rep game at fullback.

His style of unstructured play is exactly what you need at Origin. The most brilliant moments in Origin have been totally off the cuff plays.

Look at Hayne's try on Origin debut when he kicked ahead, Gidley couldn't dream of doing anything remotely like that even in his backyard.

Hayne has the ability to pull a try out of his arse at any moment and, because of his threat in attack makes others around him more dangerous.

Rugby League games, especially Origin ones, are won of the back of more than just flashy plays mate. Gidley does the gritty stuff well. The cover tackles, the kick clean ups, directing the front line defenders.

You need more than a highlight reel to be a good rep fullback.

Unfortunately Gidley's highlight reel in Origin is mainly dropped ball and poor kicks. Joey John's biggest rap for him was that 'he was always talking' while on the field...

I have never seen Hayne 'inject' himself from the wing, but I have seen him do some fantastic stuff from fullback. Gidley must go to the bench if NSW lose game 1.

Hayne was head and shoulders above anyone for NSW last year, his brilliance almost got us out of the sh*t. Gidley's "gritty" style of play did sweet FA.

He just isn't good enough mate.

I like Hayne but IMO he would get found out at Origin. The Queensland kicking game as we all know, is pretty impressive and Hayne just doesn't show enough urgency.
