BEN Cousins has reportedly been admitted to a psychiatric unit at a Perth hospital.
Fairfax radio quotes a West Australian newspaper reporter as saying the drug-addicted former AFL star was taken by ambulance to the suburban mental health unit yesterday.

The 33-year-old was admitted on Monday to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in the city, but was yesterday afternoon transferred to the Joondalup Mental Health Care Unit.

Fairfax says Cousins had apparently been displaying paranoid behaviour while being treated after hitting his head in a fall.

Cousins was one of the most decorated West Coast Eagles players, winning the 2005 Brownlow Medal and playing in their 2006 premiership side before the club sacked him in late 2007 because of his drug addiction.

He was suspended for 12 months by the AFL for bringing the game into disrepute before ending his playing career with the Richmond Tigers in 2010.

He welcomed his first child, Bobby Ernest Cousins, with partner Maylea Tinecheff in September.

It is understood Cousins was committed to the psychiatric unit for his own safety, The West Australian newspaper reported.

The paper says Cousins was taken by ambulance under a police escort to the Joondalup Health Campus mental health unit yesterday after a prolonged psychosis related to his battle with drug addiction.

Doctors treating Cousins, committed the 33-year-old after he showed no sign of improvement following more than four days in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Oh it is. I'm just glad the sport is in the lime-light for the wrong reasons, as they have ZERO mercy for the NRL. And lets face it, when you think of Ben Cousins, you immediately think of AFL.

To be honest I thought this thread was in the fight club, but he made his choices. Sometimes choices have consequences.

True ,plus the fact he was playing a sport with the worst drug policy wouldn't help..He has openly admitted how easy it was to avoid the drug testers.
Not the first & wont be the last sportsman to let drugs take over their life.

wow! tbh, i hope he comes out fine. as a person who has a family history with this sort of stuff, its not easy for anybody, no matter the situation. so maybe you should all take that into account.

It is an unfortunate situation and unfortunately the usual bitter twisted folk are cheering what has happened as it happened to someone from a rival code.

I couldn't give a toss what sport he played, if he couldn't get clean for himself he could have got clean for his son. I have no sympathy for him at all, the guy has had every advantage afforded to him because he can kick a ball and people feel sorry for the guy???

Of course yougive a f**k what sport he played. It's the only reason you are in this forum banging on about it.

If it was a swimmer and in a different forum I would doubt any of theusual bitter suspects would comment.

So what are you trying to say Mong????

I have no right to comment on this because I am not an AFL fan or my judgement on this issue is clouded because he is an AFL player???

I would be saying the same thing if this was a RL player, I have no sympathy for any drug addict, especially ones with small children. This guy has had every chance to clean himself up even lost a close friend to drugs but that still wasn't enough.

Will you be adding anything to this debate or will you just continue to waffle for the sake of it???? Classic Mong as usual.

I didn't say you didn't have the right to comment.

If you actually re read my post you will see my point in relation to the likes of yourself who get off on these kinds of things when they happen to someone from a rival code, particularly the afl.
