Bennett Is A Hypocrite

This year Bennett is all fussed with the golden point and how he wouldn't go for the draw to go into overtime.

He says here

"You wouldn't be playing for that, would you," said Bennett, when asked if he would tell the Maroons to kick for goal if they were down by two points late in the match. "You'd be playing for the win.

"While there's time on the clock you can still win the football game. No, we're Queensland. We go for the sideline. We back ourselves to score."

Last year he was singing a different tune on the winning situation as he said here

But when asked if he would then instruct his side to play for a draw if the game was close at the death, Bennett said: "Absolutely. What have we got to win for? We didn't make the rules. Those are the rules, so a draw will be fine."

Why the sudden change of heart?

This year he says he'd play for the win but last year his instructions would've been play for the draw :?

Make up your mind, Bennett!!

As I have said many many times, he is a HUGE hypocrite. When things suit him it is fine, and when they dont well you know the result. The problem is the banana benders treat him like a god. The facts speak for themselves. At this point before SOO 1 Gould is a better coach than benny. I do think Gould is a tosser, but he is a brilliant coach and his record at SOO level speaks for itself.

He's not a hypocrite at all. He only wanted to play for a win this year because the rules have changed. Last year, all they needed was a draw. Why would you go for more? as soon as you are all locked up, that's all you need right? They were the rules then. This year the rules have changed, so QLD would obviously be playing for a win. If they go for a draw this year, they're chance of losing right? Because if it's a draw after 80 minutes it goes into extra time, so QLD weren't guaranteed a win. That's why QLD would go for the win. Don't know why that's so hard to understand.

By the way, I'm a Blues fan, so no one try any typical Queenslander jokes on me! :p

That's not the case at all. He said

"We're Queensland - we'd go for the sideline and back ourselves to win."

He's making out it is negative for "Queensland" to tie it up and go into o/t to win it. It's like he's saying "Queensland" always play for the win but we know this is bullshit because last year he said they'd play for the draw.

Rule changes have nothing to do with it as levelling the score up this year could still be deemed as playing for the win.

I see your point, but I think you've misunderstood him. I think he's trying to say that they would back themselves to win, now that there's no guarantee that they would win if it was a draw after 80 minutes. They would back themselves for a win last year, except they didn't need to win.

But there's no guarantee they'd win by kicking for touch either.

If it was 18-16 to NSW with a penalty 30 metres out right in front with 40 seconds left on the clock I'd say your chances of winning are less than 50/50. If you go to o/t then your chances of winning would increase.

But my main point is that he just harps on with his Queensland bullshit and makes it out like they play always play for the win regardless of what the rules are.

Bet you Blues have been waiting for that one.

In previous seasons the two drawn games were wins to Qld. Dont tell meyou blues are going to claim the series as half yours are you? This year, a draw would mean nothing so he would go for the win. Where is the hypocricy in that.

They were not wins for Queensland. The records show the series' were DRAWN.

Dammit Queensland retained the shield, they didn't win it by any means. To do that they would have to be better than NSW, and last year they weren't, they were equal.

I think the draw argument can be blamed on the nswrl, nrl, arl, qrl.

The fact that a team can win a series (retain the shield or whatever you want to call it) in a draw situation is ridiculous.

Has anyone ever seen a tied grand final? What happenend in that situation? They played the game again until a winner was declared and if it was still tied they play a new game.

In the 89 GF the raiders drew the scores and they went into extra time. Extra time was 10 min each way and the team who scored a try won. Someone can correct me on this but the raiders scored a field goal but the match continued. Then they scored a try and the game was over.

Why the origin series was not determined that way I still don't understand. I would be saying the same thing even if nsw retained the shield. It was a disgraceful rule and I am glad it has gone. Draws are a stupid thing in any game. There needs to be a winner and a loser. You can't have two losers or two winners depending on your point of view.

Wayne Bennet is a win at all costs coach. I admire him for that but he is a bloody hypocrite. I think most coaches would be using the same tactic though if they were in his position.

It reminds me of that seinfeld episode where the woman calls out to the marathon runners "You're all winners" and Jerry and George look at each other like she is nuts.

One winner, one loser, one GREEN EYE!!!!!
