Best And Wesser Not At Souths In 2011

Meanwhile, the Cronulla Sharks' spending spree has continued with Josh Cordoba set to remain in the Shire into 2012 and Souths centre Colin Best all but agreeing to return to his debut club on a two-year deal from 2011.

Souths offered Best only a one-year extension on his current contract, and while former club Canberra was also in the hunt for his signature, family and business reasons are expected to keep the 32-year-old flyer in Sydney.

Souths teammate Rhys Wesser is also odds-on to leave Redfern with only a one-year deal being tabled. Super League looks to be his most likely option.

cant believe wesser wont take any deal offered to him. he must have some delusions of granduer. and maybe wants to go ESL...

best... again, he wants a 2 year deal. he's been good for us. but not good enough to dictate terms to management. if he really wanted to stay, he has that option. he wants a 2 year contract, so he can enjoy slumming it with the gummies. it would be poor management for us to resign a 32 year old for another 2 season when he has slowed down dramatically since his big year at the raiders

I'm fairly sure we have Nightingale signed up to 2011. After then, it might be a chance.

Kyle Stanley is coming through the ranks like a rocket, and depending on what Cooper decides to do, you might be a chance to grab one of our outside backs in some capacity.

we've got plenty of guys who are killing it in the lower grades. we need someone with a bit of first grade experience for the custodian position IMO. I'd have merrit playing fullback for us next year. He did very well before we signed wesser

Yeah, I don't see why we need to sign anyone. We have 4 guys (Morgan, Mansour, Vaivai and Farrell) to fill two empty positions.

I'm guessing if that's our route then Max to fullback, Morgan on his wing and Farrell into Best's centre position

Who is going to replace Colin Best he will be hard to replace he is reliable and virtually injury free not like alot of our other signings.

i agree 100% withe the club on this one. we've been stung by signing 30+'s to contracts that are simply too long.

Years Team............................... Pld T G FG P
1998–2002 Cronulla Sharks.............. 81 43 0 0 172
2003–2004 Hull FC......................... 57 35 0 0 140
2005–2006 St George Illawarra......... 45 26 0 0 104
2007–2008 Canberra Raiders ........... 44 18 0 0 72
2009– South Sydney...................... 40 9 0 0 36
...................................... Total 267 131 0 0 524

i know that doesnt tell the whole story, but it shows he has slowed down considerably in the try scoring department in recent years. he is still a good NRL outside back, but in two years... who knows. his form right now is good, so the club offered him a one year deal. thats responsible management, especially with all the young guys coming through. if that doesnt suit him, we simply have to let him go

Come on, I think we all know that we ahve capable and potentially fantastic outside backs to cover both Best and Wessers departure,
I think Dylan Farrel filled in quite ok last weekend...

I do not think Best has slowed down he has just been getting bad ball from his inside men look what happened in Perth when he got some good ball he ran around Nielsen as though he didn't exist.Best is a class footballer and deserves another 2 yr deal.

I have no problem with Best and Wesser leaving. Time to move on and give our youngsters a shot at 1st grade.

Mansour at fullback and Farrell as centre.

Best is competent, secure even, but he doesnt fire up the imagination.

I'd agree with Bumble that time, energy, money, focus and resources should be spent on developing the existing talent we have, many of whom are young and on the cusp.

Dylan is a good example of this and amongst club circles, while people respect him, he is not even held in the same high regard as other young players. he has made the most of his opportunity, good for him.

But premature entry into grade can wreck a career.

Our recruitment plans are 2 or 3 years with the occasional break in transmission for a player that we are seeking.

I can assure the forum, that our recruitment team, is the envy of the NRL.

I know for a fact that it even stretches to searching for promising juniors in the Canberra competition and kids in Western Sydney's Junior High Schools.

Its an expensive and complex business.

Your recruitment has been fabulous I wish we could have signed Ben Ross  How many games has Mick Crocker played for you guys? Did your recruitment team watch the 2003 highlights of Wesser and decide to sign him? How many seasons until you gave Craig Wing the punt? What ever happened to Eddie Paea?

The Souff Sydney recruitment team are as enviable as your wooden spoon cabinet.

At least our recruitment team would never have let Soward go.
