luckily it only took me 20/30 odd years to see a big win.
LOL!

the thing is, after 27 odd years without a title, you kind of forget how old you are because it's even more depressing.

that's why i'm happy when a team thats waited for some unseemly amount of time wins it.

every supporter needs a reward (even including the sharkies.)

Most 5/8ths have had trouble playing outside Johns (apart from his brother)....because he wants to do everything himself.
 you are full of sh*t!
Thats the funniest thing i have seen on this forum yet!

Johns has had two of the WORST 5/8's EVER play along side him since his brother! He doesn't have trouble with it, it just doesn't happen unless its in a rep game!

those who witnessed the great britain team of '62 will tell you that alex murphy may well be the greatest ever halfbalk.
 was just a kid mind you but I witnessed that tour, and your absolutely right, Murphy would be right up there with the lot of them.

Of those included in the poll, Johns. Stuart and Langer were great players, but they were more specialised halfbacks than Johns - they didn't possess as complete a game, or as consistently dominate the teams they played in (or against). And I speak as someone who was much more a fan of Stuart and Langer than Johns, since I've never really been able to be fully supportive of players I didn't like personally.

Outside of those mentioned, Mortimer would definitely have to be in contention, though, as well as Fulton. Different rules make it difficult to adequately compare, of course, but nonetheless...

FFS Fulton never played half mate. He was a 5/8 and centre

Seriously its Johns for me. He has a will to win not witnessed by many players and supporters alike. He tackles like a backrower, runs the ball very well, has a long kicking game to match Stuart. Probably doesn't have the short kicking game of Alfie but not far behind. Has great vision only matched by Peter Sterling and has a passing game to match any of the halfbacks mentioned (Stuart was good but don't be taken in that he had a brilliant passing game because he could pass it longer than anyone else). Lets not forget his goalkicking (I know its nothing to do with being a "halfback" as such but its still a part of his repotoire).

No contest IMO.
