Big League & RLW To Tie The Knot

I read a tiny article in today's paper saying that Big League and League Week (formerly RLW) are having merger talks. I reckon this would be a good thing. Both magazines have a lot to offer. League Week is much better at providing Feature stories, whereas Big League is much better at detailing the competition. One Magazine would be good for the game.

I guess that personally I am a "Big League Man", however recently I have found myslef buying the rival mag. Them getting together would solve my quandry.

What are people's thoughts on this?

Oh, and the name of the newly married couple................Big League Week.

Well it's better than that Wests Tigers player with the name that goes something like Nick Bradley-Gallilawa!

Cheers.

Well that doesn't surprise me. League Week has really gone down hill. They used to have some good journos there that knew their way around the clubs and could sniff out andbreak many new stories. Sadly that is no longer the case and they have been reduced to merelyregurgitating what has already broken in the papers, apart fromDebs trolling of the forums that is.

Sounds like a good move for the game, to have one recognised magazine covering things. I used to buy League Week all the time as a kid, but they lost me when they cut the size of the magazine down. Big League has always been good when you go to the footy - it has all the info you need.

On a side note, I'd love to see the return of Bubble-Gum Footy Cards. They were the best. As a kid I would buy them all the time and I still have the entire collections at home. But then they raised the price and tried to make them look all fancy, and their popularity never recovered.

Thats another reason why I stopped buying League Week - the cost was rising all the time. Back in 1990 they were $ 2.30 or something. It was unreal. And the footy cards were like 40 cents. Lets try and get back to those prices. It did wonders in helping to maintain the popularity of the comp.

Did any of you guys also collect the footy cards with the sugar free gum inside ?

I started buying footy cards when they were 30c, that was only about 10 years ago. This years cards cost $5 a pack. I don't think the companys are paying too much for the rights so, why the increase?

The last time i seriously collected the cards were in 93/94. I've god Gold cards, Winners circle and a couple of Megamorphs. Does anyone know how much a Alan Langer Megamorph would be worth?

Just one the Magazine debate, i used to buy Big League but i switched to League Week about 10 weeks ago. I would be happy is they can combine the best of the two. The Big League program and stats still murder League Week's but the other parts of the magazine should be left to League Week.

I can't say I'm happy with the quality of either magazine. I used to occasionally buy Big League, but found the stories didn't really have much to do with the game and how is anything considered editorial or hard hitting going to be written when the NRL own the thing. Rugby League Week used to be great, but it dropped in standard, so I stopped buying it.

Rugby League Week needs to return to the quality it used to have, it needs to remain indipendant of the other media to be hard hitting and honest.

The game needs a Magazine worth reading and buying. At the moment, the Internet seems to be the only place you'll get someone willing to give an opinion that is different to the one that comes out of Fox studios.
