BIG WEEK? LEAGUE LEAGUE?

It's official - Big League and League Week are joining, after a month of speculation.

I just want to know whether it will be called Big Week, League League, League Week, Big League or NRL Weekly.

Realistically I think the last one is the best.
Or even 'Inside League'

I think they settled on Big League Week but you can't believe anything you read nowadays...

That's fair enough but I reckon they should come up with a different name altogether.

As we saw with two of the NRL joint ventures - they didn't work. Wests isn't working, Eagles is falling apart at the crotch seam - and I believe the latter is because they kept most of one identity. The Central Coast has not embraced the Eagles like once thought.

The same story will occur unless they take measures and give the whole thing a name change.

From the people I've been speaking to, it seems that BIG LEAGUE WEEK is odds on to be the name for the hybrid magazine. I think it will be good overall, however there needs to be structures put in place to make sure that the NRL does not dictate what goes in it- the magazine should have the credibilty of the Big League program and the objectiveness of RLW.

Although a brand new name is unlikely, how about pushing for "World of Rugby League" (as was mooted in the chat room). If not, how about "Play-The-Ball".

Cheers.

How about: 'Inside Pass'
Or it's Fox affiliate: 'Down the Blindside'
:)

They should call it, The NRL's Oppinion. Thats the problem, it is going to be a biased magazine where the writers will tow the party line. League needs a good indipendant publication where the writers aren't affraid to hold back.

The quality of Rugby League writing is pretty bad at the moment. I was stuck in a North Queensland Country Town for a few hours so I went to the news agents. Rugby League is my number one sport but I instead opted for Bicycling Australia, the Tour de France eddition. It was a very good informative read. There were a few articles by sports phycoligists and doctors and discussion on the sports finer points. Articles on the junior system, how to ride on gravel, insight into teams, a good preview of the Tour De France with an indepth look at the major combatants for all the competitions, profiles on the Australian riders and the mountain stages.

What do you get in Either Rugby League magazine, the team listing, a paragraph on each game, what Ryan Girdler ate for breakfast, a picture of a cheergirl and not much else. If you team is playing away, even if it is a local derby, don't expect any articles on your team in Big League. They don't exist for a week. The last article I recal written by a Doctor in Rugby League Week was an artical attributing the "x" factor in players to ADD. Not exactly the quality I want.

I still won't be forking out any money for the new mag unless has a 'Bush' section(a decent size too!!) much like the old RLW used to have a couple of years ago.
