Biggest waste of talent ever

Was one of the most gifted ball players ever but simply turned into a workhorse by his dad such a waste of talent.

haha, I'm guessing you're taking the piss.

Even his old man John said " He has no Rugby League skills whatsoever, but he tries his best. " Or words to those affect.

The whole talent v work ethic debate is interesting.

Brisbane have always been competitive because they have a large talent pool to draw from, and they had a great man manager getting the best out of their troops, turning potential into superstars.

With Bennett gone, what does the future hold for the Broncos? Will they be as successful in years to come? Was this years mid-season slump a prelude to the future?

John Doyle from the Cowboys

In nominating him though I dont think anyone who has had career ending injuries could be described as having wasted their talent. Unrealised talent maybe but not wasted.

Agree...was simply outstanding in SOO1 2001...awesome game from dummy half....

I would nominate Carl Webb.....
As a Cows fan it is very very frustraitng watching him go through the motions most weeks.

When he is on his game (lucky if its twice a season).he is a devestating runner.& brutal defender......i think the fame from SOO so early in his career ruined him.

Ali Lauitiiti.

This might be wrong as I haven't closely followed his ESL career, but I used to love watching him play.

Shannon Walker- remember watching qld cup finals 2 year ago and saw him play he absolutely tore the team apart, i thought to myself this kids going to be better than matty bowen, since then hes played a few games for forthe titans and has done absolutely nothing.

Weller Huraki and Taulima tautai, so much talents but dont have the work ethic.

other michael lett, richi williams, eddy paea aaron groom, arana tuamata , tevita latu

PJ Marsh. Absolutely destroyed it for the Warriors, most incisive hooker we'd ever had, and in combination with Stacey Jones it was straight up lethal. Sadly, he had that horrific neck injury at Parramatta and despite a lot of effort by Parramatta, Brisbane and himself he was never anything like what he was. I know he got a Queensland cap again, but seriously, when he was a Warrior he was just a brutal player.
He was lethal for you guys in 2002-2003. I do wonder how long it would have take Cameron Smith to crack origin had PJ Marsh stayed injury-free. And I would say that he would have played for Australia as well.

Yes he was rather ordinary at times, but on his day he was terrorising. In the Souths v Knights game in 05 he had an effing blinder
I remember that game. You're right he played well that day but it was against a Knights side in turmoil at the time.

Michael Lett - Has showed a lot of promise in limited time in first grade. Really hoping he gets more of a run in first grade with dell most likely moving on. Has speed, ability and a knack for finding the line and if he gets some solid consistent first grade under his belt can be a very good winger or fullback

I rate Lett very highly. Get rid of Sailor and put him on the wing.

He was a brilliant player when he came back to Parra in 05. But when he left, he hardly saw first grade. I wish we never let him go the 2nd time.

yeah, he was awesome during his second stint here.. obviously not as good as what he was the first time or when he was at the warriors.. but he came back and played well.

cant beleive we didnt release Riddell so we could have kept him.

I suppose Michael Witt comes into consideration. He comes through the grades at Parramatta, goes off in his first half year, can barely get a gig the next year, then he finds himself on the outer, goes to Manly, goes alright there and then I think he got injured/suspended and found himself on the outer, got a crack at the Warriors, starts off well, great goal kicker but never really dominated. Given the wrap on him coming through the systems and his start at Parramatta, its kinda bewildering. He seemed to have a massive taste of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th year syndrome. IMHO his biggest mistake is that he wanked on about being a five eighth, when he was a halfback. He played about 3 games for the Warriors at #7 and they were up there with his best first grade performances but then whinged his way back out to 6. Playing 7 allowed him to step the bigger forwards better, but he would not budge.

I don't think its coincidental that he was basically discarded by Parramatta, Manly and the Warriors. The movements there are all very similar. Starts off well, then really does nothing, and gets found out for not following through on the hype he started out with. He would have to go down as one of the most unfilfulled halves of the last 5 years, I know he played a lot of first grade but when he started at Parramatta he was amazing, 1000000 times better than what he followed up with.

I played for the same junior club as Blake, about 5 age groups below him. In 2003ish at my footy end of season presentation one of the blokes at the club got up and said if Blake Green ever got a gig in first grade he would absolutely kill it. Several other players from the club have gone onto bigger and better things (L'estrange, John Williams and Wolfman are 3 off the top of my head) but the club rated Blake ahead of all of them.

I had a couple of mates that played touch with him a few years ago and his name was always thrown around when they were talking about who'd eventually kill it in the NRL.

I think he just needs a extended crack at it and he'll go well.

Blake has alot of talent, about 3 years ago, he had the best kicking game at our club, including first grade. (probably not including Tim Smith). He needs better coaching then Ricky "the halfback destroyer" Stuart has given him. Hopefully Moore will and give him decent first grade time in the halves.

probably not the biggest waste of talent, cause this guy has played plenty of games (after his injury problems) and won a grand final.. but pat richards should still be in the nrl.. if he kept his form for the tigers, he'd have a few origin jerseys by now.

wish he had never left the eels.

Blake Green always killed it in the juniors. I guess you can say he has struggled to make the same impact in the NRL but he is worth keeping. If I were a recruitment manager, I'd love to have him on my books because once he finds his rhythm in the top grade, just watch the kid go.

owen craigie would have to be the biggest waste of talent he could have been one of the best centres of his era but faded out and is now eating his weight in big macs somewhere in newcastle

Royston Lightning - Absolutely dynamic winger who could do it all. Was going to be a superstar - but couldn't give up the Maccas. Now running around somewhere in the Queensland Cup

i played at cairns kangaroos when he was there, an hour out from kick off from most games hed tuck into a healthy dose of fat laden fish and chips and a can of coke, come out and have a blinder
