Blake Austin is a better 5/8 than Anthony Milford & Mitchell Moses

Lol @ the few pelicans that think Austin has peaked. He spent his most important development years under the Elliott regime. I think we will see his best in 2017, he has enough talent & too much heart to be anything but a success in the right environment. I was concerned Ricky would set him back, but so far so good.

lol its only Kiwi saying Austin is at his peak, no one else is that stupid. You have to give him a break as well, internets is serious business to him and he has invested a lot in the McCrone of Logan becoming the next immortal.

if anyone wants to see fan bias at it's very best read over some of the comments regarding Milford when he was at the Raiders in the Raiders forum, then come back and read this

green goggles and that bloke who left my club at it's very best

^That's cos he was a very good fullback last year, but it's been proven this year that he can't play 5/8.

He's a talent no doubt, but right now he's being misused and he's outta shape.

You must be blazin a bit too much.

Just play him as fullback and enjoy the spoils of one of the best attacking weapons in the NRL. He's years away from developing his ball playing game to play the halves

You'd be better off letting him develop that as a fullback, slowly

Milford as a fullback is an out and out stud.
Milford as a 5/8th is an out and out dud.

You may one day be proven right but so far he's only been a stud for Shetland ponies, yet to prove he has a taste for Caviar

Like even if the selectors are obsessed with a Reynolds "made for origin type" Austin is pretty much the same player without the extreme amount of niggle.

Played bloody well today. Has to get a look in at Origin, surely. Is a miles better player than Reynolds.

He would Pearce would compliment each other well at origin IMO

Don't think he's the the type of guy to be over awed with the occasion either.

Unlikely to make SOO with that kicking game. Needs to improve it, both long and on the line.

I think he would be a decent number 14 even with his average kicking game. He can play pretty much everywhere in the backline and could fill in the forwards too. He is a competitor without being a complete idiot.

Didn't he play a lot of his time in the backrow at wests? Give him the kurt gidley spot on the bench.

Pearce and hodkinson both have good kicking games. That's why I think he would go well with one of them. Austin's isn't amazing but it's ok, better then that idiot Reynolds anyway.

I think if Adam Reynolds can make it back that he and Austin would be a great combination in terms of defensive capabilities and balance

Rightly or wrongly though, if you look at what Daley values in his halves, defence and kicking, they're probably Austin's weakest points, though his defence does seem on the up from middling for a half to getting above avg.
