Thats exactly what they should do. Boyd is a better ball player than Milford is right now. And maybe ever will be. Milford is just not a natural ball player, he looks like he has to really try hard and think every time he tries to play make
Well you never know, Bennett could still have that up his sleeve.
But anyway, when Boyd came into first grade he had absolutely zero ball playing ability, he had played fullback/wing/centre his whole career. And he came into grade when junior fullbacks barely had to do any ballplaying (second man plays were rare). Boyd learnt. Milford will learn, he is a much more natural ballplayer and actually played in the halves his whole junior career.
I think the days of small fullbacks are over. Barba absolutely carved up a few years ago, but I can't ever see that happening again. Look at the best ones, Inglis, Hayne, Dugan, they all have one thing in common. Boyd's not huge, but he rarely gets dominated when running the ball.
At the Broncs we have spent years with a small fullback, I would put Hoffman in that category as he often got physically dominated. Unless they are having a brilliant season like Barba did, there's no real way to justify having a small fullback. Taking bombs is crucial, as is starting off the sets with some decent metres.
Of course there is still a place for small quick players - in the halves. Which I think is where Milford should stay.
