Blake Austin is a better 5/8 than Anthony Milford & Mitchell Moses

I'm pretty happy with Austin for a third of the price of Milford. Long term Milford will still be better, but we will have Austin + Sezer and some change in the meantime.

How does Milford measure up against other guys earning 900k+?

Why do so many people believe Austin is better at any other position but 5/8? is it based on his running game or...???

It is so refreshing to have a 5/8 that is willing to take on the line. I personally believe he is best suited in this position and not the second row.

We are in a better position with the players we ended up with than Milford on a million dollars despite the fact he has the potential to be a great player.

He isn't even playing good. Austin has been much better this year and I think Wightons a better FB as well.

Agreed. Wighton makes the try saving tackles that Milford never could.

There was positive discussion regarding Austin on Matty Johns Show & NRL360 this week. It's only a matter of time before he plays Origin.

Maybe before the season started. But both Austin and Wighton are playing better and more consistent than Milford ever has.

So no, I don't want him back.
If that helps you deal with losing Milford think what you like. Truth is there weren't many if any Raider fans that didn't spit the dummy when he signed with the Broncos and then suddenly claim how crap he was the second the round 13 deadline passed. He went from the best player oming through to over rated and inconsistent over night.

Milford is doing quite well in the defensive line. Hasn't missed many tackles compared to Brooks and even Thurston.

Mate that is somewhat correct, however, Milford has attempted significantly less tackles then everyone else you have mentioned, it could be argued that he is being more protected defensively then the others.

As a Raiders fan and someone that watched Milf play for years, I think he is a great athlete, however, his departure has clearly made our squad better. We had more funds to throw at other players and as a whole we have improved in most positions.

I am genuinely glad Milford departed. We would have had a similar roster to our 2014 team and realistically we deserved the spoon.

Milford vs Austin, each to their own I guess. Milford is clearly the better athlete, but being the better athlete does not necessarily determine the better player. I am unsure on what the Broncos paid for Milf, however, it was allegedly 400k according to Paul Kent. Austin earns considerably less and is producing more at the Raiders.

Is Milf a better FB then a 5/8, probably. You keep assuming that the Raiders fans want Milf to struggle, which is far from the truth. Sure some might dislike him and think he is full of shit but his current form and the form the players we have is more then enough for them to be thankful that he departed.

Of course people expected Milf to fire up. He moved away from a massive contract. He had been the Raiders key player for sometime and was being scouted as a possible Origin bolter last season. Forget the age thing for a second, he has played a few seasons in the NRL and is earning allegedly 400k, which is comparable to some decent players.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the Nikorima bros. If I was one of them (Kodi especially) I would be looking at changing clubs because the Broncos spine looks to be pretty set for the next few years and there would be better opportunities elsewhere.

If they leave and kick on to be better players than Milford, would Broncos fans still think the signings of Milford and Boyd were best for the club long-term?

What are you on about, why wouldn't we defend our own player? Especially when he's still learning a new position.

Learning the position? The kid played 5/8 throughout the juniors. He played in that same role at the Raiders. Yes he moved teams, so did other players such as Austin.

Milford has a some crazy potential, but nothing in 2015 has indicated that he is going to meet or exceed any expectations. Good luck to the kid, but he is being played at 5/8 because the Broncos decided they needed to bring in Boyd. Presently they could pay someone significantly less to perform the same service as Milf.

How long do you think the Broncos will hold on Milford with his current form? He isn't much better then Barba.

As long as it's working for the team (which it seems to be at the moment).

Austin is a very underrated player. He always looked good in the jnrs at Penrith and with the Tigers. I wish he was a Shark.

Seems funny he doesn't want to be a 13 as it seems like his natural position. If he can calm down and cut the erratic plays he can come up with he should get that utility spot for the Blues once Lewis fades away.

Yes he's a great player. It's a shame Ivan thought he was centre and didn't play him in the 6. Could of been a great foil to Sowie

The way people are going on around here it sounds like Milford is playing worse than Rex Turp and the Broncos are wooden spooners.

I said last line defence.
In the line, he gets a lot of help a la Lockyer. Bennett knows who needs a minder in D.

The Broncos are defending really, really well. Ben Hunt has carried his attacking form from last year, and looks one hell of a player.
Milf is a passenger, and is being carried by the team.

If the Broncos weren't defending so damn well, and/or if Ben Hunt wasn't such a gun that he manufactures the game winning play in the final 5 mins more than once - then Milf would be under the microscope way more than he is. The fact you are winning is buying him time. If you were in the position of the Rabbits or Roosters, Wayne may have been forced to make a change. It's only pot luck for Milford that you're not.

Well no to part 2, but that seems like a bit of a leading question. Yes we would regret losing better players for buying a worse one, but who is to say it'll end up like that? Nikorima's are similar players to Milford and if they were shoe horned into 5/8th they'd be struggling even more than him at the moment.

Jayden might find himself in Hodges centre spot in the coming years, that's where he's playing in the U20's at the moment.
