Blake Fergurson in Dragons Sights

I said something 3-4 weeks ago Dragons may look at Fergurson as the right centre solution in the absence of not signing Dugan.

Reported today Roosters offering only 1 year extension and his mgt has offered him out to clubs - Reported that Dragons and one other club looking at him now. $550k a season for 3 years for a current SOO player aged 27 would do me.

2018.
1. Field/Dufty/ Nightingale
2. McDonald
3. Fergurson
4. Lafai
5. Mann

6. Widdop
7. Hunt

14. Aitken

I'd take fergo, he's a quality player IMO.
I'm not sure that we would look to sign him though with Aitken and Lafai locked up.

They were moving Dugan to right centre after having signed Aitken so you would imagine they're still looking for a top class right centre

ROOSTERS’ SECOND THOUGHTS ON BLAKE

THE Roosters remain unsure about re-signing Origin and Kangaroos winger Blake Ferguson.

The problem is Ferguson wants big money but the Roosters are baulking because they now regard him as a specialist winger and not a fullback or centre, where he has been found out in defence.

The Roosters will only offer him a one-year extension deal, even though he’s only 27.

But that’s another story. The club is still not convinced about his off-field demeanour.

There is talk of an incident early this year where he very narrowly avoided trouble.

Ferguson’s agent, Sam Ayoub, is now shopping him around to rival clubs. There has been interest from St George Illawarra and two other clubs.

Watching Fletch and Hindy interview Origin players asking who was most likely to muck up in camp and hit Marquee or Ivy and they laughed and instantly agreed "Space Cadet" aka Blake Ferguson. I know it's only satire but still a fairly strong indication that he hasn't changed his ways much.

Dugan and Fergo were both on the roof with Breezers but clearly only one of them actually learned from that incident and grew up.

I wouldn't take Rothfield's piece seriously. It was a small note at the end of the article, I feel like everyone says "there is interest from St George Illawarra".

If this is legit, then i'm confused about this one. Ferguson is a good player, strong runner of the ball. He's similar to Dugan though, he's good but he's not elite. I wouldn't play him at centre, I think wing is his best position.

You don't call a player playing SOO for the past 3 years? Your joking!

Wonder if this would count as a 'like for like' replacement? And at about 200k a season less too.

I still go back to Millwards interview saying we aren't in the market for a back.. unless Ferguson has only just come on the market.

I don't understand then why we were looking to keep Dugan and playing him at right centre and not replacing a player of his caliber now that we failed to keep him - early this year Millward stated that Field would move to fullback and Dugan to centre! Why would the thinking change in recruiting a gun centre - it's not as if Aitken has turned into Steve Renouf!

Last line 2nd paragraph says it all..
No thanks we have enough defensive issues on that side already.

Is Woods an elite prop?
Is Nathan Merritt an elite winger?
Is Farah an elite hooker?
Is Josh Morris an elite centre?
Is Mitchell Pearce an elite halfback?
Is Josh Jackson an elite second-rower?

These are all Origin players over the last couple of years and I wouldn't call any of them elite. Just because they've played for their state or country, doesn't mean they're a world-beater.
No doubting Ferguson's ability, he's good, but he's not in the same league as Trbojevic/Mansour/Radradra/Chambers/Vunivalu/Holmes/Bird/Rapana etc

Mickey what Millward says and thinks , Im not sure . There has been no indication from coaching that Field will be fullback next year , if so they are just going to play him at fullback with no experience or game time . If he is to replace Dugan next year he needs some game time in that position this year .....
