Blue Wiggle - league/tigers mad

I don't think I have ever heard a more fanatical Tigers fan than Anthony Field (the blue wiggle). He was just on 2UE talking to John Stanley about his love for the Tigers and rugby league and said they were tossing up whether to call his son Benji or Robbie. He even bought the new the Wiggle (Sam) Wests Tigers membership and said he had to support the team or he wouldn't be a Wiggle.

Stanley wanted to change the subject, but Anthony just wanted to talk TIGERS!! Watched a Wiggles episode with my little fella the other day and they were playing rugby league and Anthony was in an old Balmain jersey. Maybe he can be the Rusty Crowe of the Tigers.

I knew he was Tigers supporter, but after hearing that interview I'm convinced he is a MAD Tigers supporter.

You have to be a pretty serious supporter of a team to have no nonsense club man like Benny Galea s your favourite player.

Good stuff Field. I hope he exploits his popularity with the young ones to win us some more supporters!

"Hey there kids.. we the wiggles have something important to tell you... are you a keen rugby league fan?"

"If you are, walk out of the room for 5 minutes ....."

*pause for 1 minute*

"Well that means those of you left do not like rugby league.... well guess what.. there's no santa claus... HAHAHAHAHAH"

Yeh, I can see an army of four year olds going to Leichhardt Oval, chanting on the hill, then making their way to the Orange Grove to sink a few and possibly a dust up to finish the night.

If that’s what he wants to do if Wests Ashfield sold the licence then good on him, but this is the problem for Wests Tigers, they have 3 sets of fans, Magpies, Balmain & Wests Tigers.
It was a rediculous merger when it was announced mid-season 1999

Channel 9 reports he wishes to buy wests tigers, split the club, reestablish Balmain as an NRL club and send the magpies to Perth. Sounds like a goer.

In other news he's also going to get Santa Claus to relocate from the North Pole due to the terrible working conditions it imposes on the elves :p

Even as an old Balmain fan this type of lets split the club up as bad for us. It will never happen and I doubt the NRL would let it happen and it just constantly divides the fan base. Although when the club itself has the Magpies in NSW they only have themselves to blame for this type of division.

But I would like to see someone rich enough come in and purchase the club so we can remove our ridiculous board structure and maybe become a competent club. On the proviso that we are Wests Tigers now, we can honor our dual heritage but we have to be one club going forward.

What he really said:

“All my money now is invested in the Wiggles, and it would be a fairytale, but one day the Wiggles may sell somewhere,” Field said.

“If I had that sort of money, yeah, I’d do it, absolutely.

Meanwhile the guys net worth is likely less than what the Tigers are even worth.

The Wests Tigers are reportedly worth around $20 million, with the Wiggles said to be worth at least $50 million.

Field holds a majority ownership of the group which was formed in 1991.
