Quite simply - it's all about pity. None of those other donkeys had a chance if the great one was to take his place in the field.

Hope he didn't rock up at some picnic meet today....

Will have to watch the race and see how he would have went. Just keep an eye on the last couple 200m from home, they'd be the ones he'd be (hopefully) catching.
