With the tail enders knocking us around why didn't Ponting give Katich a bowl? I know he's not a top line spinner but he has a got a 6-for in India and it would have been worth a shot. Gotta wonder sometimes!

Because that would be seen as taking a risk, something Ponting never does as a Captain. And the funny thing is his nickname is Punter :?

Did katich really get a 6 for in india? . I know he got wickets vs Zimbabwe in Sydney, but not india, probably did ive just forgotten.

I think bowling Katich was yes probably a bit too much of a risk. For one I think he would be really out of practice and 2, it had the potential to give away alot of runs quickly as he does give a fair few bad balls away.

I dont blame Ponting not for bowling him, I wouldnt of either.

Michael Clarke is the one who got a 6-for. 6/9 back in 04. Katich's 6-for was against Zimbabwe at Sydney.

EDIT: Katich's first class bowling average is 37 which isn't too bad, he's bowled in 13 of the 26 test matches he's played (before this one) and taken 12 wickets at an average of 33.84

The pitch hasn't really favoured spinners thats why Ponting hasn't bowled the part timers. If we had a genuine spinning option he would have bowled a thousand overs that first innings.

Michael Clarke is probably a genuine spinning option these days, but as has been mentioned it's the seamers that have taken the wickets this Test.
