Brad Newley has to be one of the best Australian prospects in the last decade or two. He is in only his second year of the NBL and finally starting for the crocs and putting up numbers like 33pts 4reb 8ass 4blks 3stls. To me its just a matter of time until he makes the NBA. But in saying that the NBA is more than just one step up from the NBL its another 20 steps up especially for a young shooting gaurd. The last prospect from the NBL, Matt Nielson went into training camp with the Denver Nuggets last year but was overlooked and is currently bloombing in the European leagues.

This leaves the question: In your opinion, will Brad Newley make the NBA?

he has the abilty but needs consitancy, he does have alot of great games but at the same time has alot of off games as well. NBA requires good performances all round all the time not just glimpses. maybe in a year or 2.

I saw Newley play twice in Toronto in July. He was a good shooter, but to be honest I didn't think he was quick enough to be an NBA shooting guard. The Canadian team played a shorter but quicker (black) player on him, and Newley had trouble getting open. I know I only saw him twice, but that's my impression of what I saw.

If he did try the NBA would he be the first Aussie to do it without playing US college ball first? I'm not familiar with the NBL of course, but I wonder if he wouldn't have been better to go to a US college if he wanted to play in the NBA.

On the other hand the NBA signs lots of Euros who didn't play NCAA, so maybe it's inevitable that an Aussie will go that route too.

I think Gaze was at Seton Hall. Pretty sure Heal and Anstey did not attend College there, and don't think Dwight did cause he started young with the Cannons and seemed to play every NBL season.

Back to the thread subject...

Newley continues to impress me with a great performance last round.

I bet next week he come up with another huge effort against the two best teams, bullets and kings.

Anyone catch the game on fox?
Newley played pretty good tonight, not his best though.
He seems to be a bit distracted, perhaps something with the coaching staff or players that he is upset over.
He also need more ball none of this Rob Rose garbage Crocs have gotta feed Newley.
