Lyons signs for three years
July 10, 2004
WALLABIES number eight David Lyons has re-signed with the Australian Rugby Union for the next three years.
The deal will take Lyons through to the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.
Lyons, 24, played at the back of the scrum for the Wallabies during last year's World Cup as a replacement for injured Toutai Kefu and has played in Australia's four home internationals this season.
Wallabies coach Eddie Jones said Lyons was developing his game and had been one of the national team's more consistent performers this year.
"David has started the Test season reasonably well and is always looking to develop his game," he said today.
"It's pleasing to see he has committed himself to Australian Rugby for the next three years and I'm sure, in that time, he will also develop as a real leader within the squad."
Lyons made his Wallabies' debut in 2000 against Argentina and has played 25 Tests and more than 50 Super 12 matches for the New South Wales Waratahs.
Oh sorry, it's Lyons, my mistake
