BREAKING NEWS : Toovey Appointed for 2013
Geoff Toovey appointed Manly Sea Eagles coach, Des Hasler to stay on for 2012

MANLY legend Geoff Toovey has been awarded a three-year coaching contract from 2013, with Des Hasler to remain at the helm of the Sea Eagles next season.

After a two-hour emergency board room meeting at Manly chairman Scott Penn's North Sydney offices tonight, the Manly Sea Eagles ratified Geoff Toovey as the best man to guide them out of their current mess.

The Daily Telegraph has been told the decision to appoint Toovey was a move to stabilise the club after the shock defection of two-time premiership-winner Hasler to the Bulldogs.

The seven-member Manly board spoke to Toovey via phone hook-up during the tense emergency meeting.

Full details in tomorrow’s Daily Telegraph.

Makes perfect sense.

Allows a gradual transition into the job, ultimately making the job easier for both parties in 2012 and beyond.

I see Tooves very much in the Des mould - but with a longer and more intensive apprenticeship.

great news from the shadows of another Grand Final win. It is disappointing something seems to happen after winning the premiership at Manly. 2009 season launch destroyed any hopes of back to back. Hopefully this quick and sensible decision will lead to some stability at the club, so we can have a decent crack at back to back premierships. It is still a bit of long shot now I think. (I'd be happy to be wrong. ;-) )

I laughed at the thought of going back to back, but having thought about it, it's not as impossible as some would think.

Our losses : Hopoate, Robertson.

Nothing serious there. As much as I love Robbo, he's not irreplaceable.

We'll just need similar good luck regarding injuries as we did this year. Eg : 1,6,7,9 to play most games.
