I was just looking for some info on Brett Stewart, like how he plays, is he quick, can he tackle, etc.
I have heard he is really good.
I haven't actually seen him play, but he seems to score lots of tries and I have heard that he is actually better than Hunt.
What's the story on him?

From the matches I have seen him play in 1st grade (haven't seen any lower grade), Stewart is quick, and he has a good try scoring strike rate (something like 12 in 15 games). I dont think he is better than Hunt yet, but I do feel he is underated by the critics, however that is a good thing, as he isn't thrown into the spotlight as much as hunt and doesn't have as much pressure put on him.

He isn't better than Hunt atm, but there is a good chance these 2 will do battle in many origin series to come.

I reckon he's the fastest Rugby League player going around right now....when he was at West Wollongong they were tipping him to try out for the Olympics!

brett stewart is in a different mould to hunt.. brett is a true fullback. He's super safe under a bomb, his defence on line line is improving every game, and can run the 100m in olympic qualifying time. In other words, he's damn brilliant, and in a couple of years with expierience he'll earn a couple of reps spots.

Hunt is different.. i can see him more as a centre, or even 5-8th or something like that.. stewy and hunt are just different players, both good for different reasons, soooo hard to compare

Brett Stewart is awesome! I think the best part of his game (other than scoring a bizillion tries) is that when there is 1 on 1 situation after a break he will make the tackle and save the try 99 out of 100 times!

Hunt has the advantage of playing with a better side.

Exactly right MQ his defence is solid and cover defence is outstanding.

i noticed someone on the NRL forum talking about brett stewart, and it was dated at 2003. how long have you, manly fans, known that this guy was something special? (because he is just that) us raiders fans have been rapping an 18 yr old called todd carney, a premier league player, all year, talking about his future star status. was that like you guys with brett stewart?

Carney was the no.7 in this year's NSW Residents side, playing against QLD residents (which i think is basically Premier league vs. Queensland Cup?).He was the halfback in the Raiders SG-Ball winning team in 2003. That's all i know about him as far as junir reps go, unfortunately.

ive always known his greatness :D hehe but yeah, he debuted in first grade against parra in 2003, where he got a serious shoulder injury which put him out for the season :( sooo i guess manly fans have known for quite a while that he's been a star.. i think i first noticed him playing lower grades in early 2003.. not quite sure of the exact game tho

mmm hunt has a bit of a step that brett doesnt really have, but he doesnt need it, he's much faster than hunt and just runs around players instead

Brett's got a nice swerve. Add that to his speed and he simply does not need a step in 1-on-1 situations.

I think Stewart is the Better fullback, But lacks some of the passing skills of Hunt. I'm struggling to remember a kick Stewart put through as well!

Hunt will end up at 5/8 or lock depending on how he fills out.

Brett and Glenn Stewart both came across to Manly early last season. Glenn got a start against the Broncos, while Brett's debut was bitter sweat when he had a major shoulder injury after an attempted tackle on Jamie Lyone from memory.

Everybody knew he would be back in 1st grade this year. A number of us felt he was held back a bit too long. But what do we know?

He's been a gun this year. We could have suffered a lot more this year without him. Particularly in my opinion if Walker had been left at fullback.

It's a tough battle between Scott Donald and Brett Stewart for fastest in the competition. After watching one of Brett's tries earlier this season I believe he may be quicker. He actually outsprinted Donald as he ran take an offload to score. He has had a hammie problem for a lot of the second part of the season to.

I hope they lock him up for life at Manly. And his brother too.

I think I heard that Donald can run 100m in about 10.9, while Brett has run it in 10.7...

They are both super fast, and .2 of a second probably only means about three mtres over that distance...

In conclusion, Brett Stewart is a champion.

We are talking about a kid that went from SG Ball to First grade in the same season (i.e. 2003.) He is an extremely special talent and will only get better.

As fans, we've known about him for about 2 years. His progression has been remarkable though, there are not many player that go through that many grades in the same year.

Hunt Vs. Stewart will be an original battle for years to come.
