Brian and his ways

The more I think about BS selections and ideas the more I have come to the conclusion that he totally believes in his own ways and the more he's told that he's wrong the more he'll stick to his current idea.

Everyone is calling for Wagon to be shifted from 5/8. No matter how bad he plays there and no matter how many people are calling for him to be shifted, BS won't do it as he thrives on his own decisions and will never admit he was wrong initially.

If Witt or Thorman aren't played at 5/8 against a weak side like Manly, then they aren't in the plans of BS for 2004. They need to be in the top grade now to develop an understanding with the rest of the players.

BS enjoys doing new things that no coaches would do or think of, so he can be remembered by them but are not necessarily in the best interests of the team.

I'd just like to say to all those people that are saying that Witt isn't playing good enough to be in 1st grade, he'd do a better job than Wagon at the moment. He has a better kicking game and passing game and he's sound defensively. Gee I forgot Wagon doesn't know how to pass or kick.
The fact that we are winning games still is saving BS. The question needs to be asked whether we would be playing better with thorman or Witt at 5/8.

BS 's liking of Webster, surely Thorman, Witt or Muspratt would be better players to have there than Webster.

I guarantee you that webster wouldn't make the bench at Souths

better at the specific role webster plays in the first grade team?

witt and thorman are better off working with our talented premier league team than getting 20 minutes off the bench each week in first grade

with burt and morris becoming more involved in playmaking and kicking, wagon with 6 on his back is really not as bad as many are making out

In case you were un aware Parramatta is the 3rd best attcking side in the league and the equal first worst defending side. These statistics show that there doesn't seem to be a need for a typical 5/8 so why bother doing it just for the sake of it? We average over 26 points a game so we dont have problems finding the line.

Also bringing in Witt or Thorman will weaken our defence and thats something we are trying to strengten not weaken.

I'm starting to think that as well. Wagon has essentially become a third backrower & although not quite perfect is becoming better as the weeks roll on.

I don't know about that. I think Smith is just waiting till their confidence is a big higher. I see the reason to play with a defensive 5'8th at the moment, Adam Dykes is handling the role of playmaker well. Once we improve our defence and general play then we can get another attacking playmaker in the side.

And Thorman is signed for 1 year with a 1 year option on top of that.

ok this is kinda off topic but how long did we sign Thorman for?

1 year with an option, I think. God only knows why. No decent halfback or 5/8 should ever sign under Brian Smith.

Wagon isn't playing bad, he is just not playing as a 5/8th and while it has worked in the 3 games we have won this year, it really didn't work against the Dogs or Raiders, i believe that is because those teams are both well drilled defensive teams (by the way i don't come to this conclusion after the Riaders shocking performance tonight).

When we play the Roosters and Panthers we will also get hammered if we do not have more creative players.

We will not win a premiership with a half back and 2 locks, sorry but we just won't!!!! dykes is carving them up but he still needs someone helping him so we can be consistent for the 80 mins.........

Thanks Kornstar, someone who atually understands.

We have scored most of our points against a weakened Knights team and against Souths. Look at the Canberra game. When we needed a playmaker at 5/8 to get the ball, it went to Wagon and he dropped it cold more than once. He also missed 6 tackles, some pathetic attempts. The game was there to be won and we failed. Dykes had an off day, so everytime he has an off day we will be woeful as there is no one else.

To hear Wagon is getting better is absolute rubbish, Thorman and Witt would get better by every 1st grade game they played also, only they would contribute more like a 5/8 should.

I'm not hear to bag off our coach, I just want to see the best possible team playing the best they possibly can.

Reading some of the replies on Webster, seriously give me a break.

Everyone in the world believes wagon should not be the no. 6 yet he is that means that Brian is ignorant. I agree with Lyonheart. Talk about Webster being some new age PJ Marsh is offensive. The guy is a oxygen thief

Who would have guessed the line up.

Now be honest.

Any one have Cayless at hooker, Muspratt on the bench, Morris at half and Dykes actually played at 5/8 today.

Did I hear the score right.. 32-26 after being down 14-0.
sh*t you are hard to please.

This post was made before the score you quoted became fact.
I doubt whether the score would change that opinion anyway.
