Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

It's becoming clear that a 3rd Brisbane team is unlikely to be considered as the 18th club, I would also say that it's unlikely to also be the 19th club unless prospective bids drop out or the PNG bid falls through, which is a possibility.

There are many permutations that can be adopted for anyone of the Brisbane bids, Easts Tigers go it alone, Ipswich Jets go it alone perhaps?

Firstly, I don't see a 3rd Brisbane club joining the NRL for a while. It seems as though the consensus is to give both the Gold Coast Titans and the Dolphins time to grow as organisations. It doesn't make sense at this point to bring in a 3rd Brisbane club until Gold Coast especially has created some sort of legacy or positive tangible impact locally and on the competition.

This is not to say that there shouldn't be a 3rd Brisbane club at all, but the appointment of a 20th NRL club should be delayed to give Brisbane3 the best possible chance of being successful. This is because a 3rd Brisbane club would potentially bring so much value to comp. Why is there a rush to bring in a 20th club, there's no need to rush. Let's give the Titans, Dolphins, Club 18 and 19 time to bed in.
If the NRL rushes to appoint a 20th club it will likely not be Brisbane3.

Now if a 3rd Brisbane club is to enter the comp, what form would it take that would make it successful and bring value without cannibalising the Brisbane market?

It's been suggested on here before so I'm not going to take credit for it. But the best Brisbane3 bid would be one led by Easts Tigers that involves a merger or involvement with Ipswich Jets. That way you get a cashed up Easts club and the branding and location of the Ipswich Jets (that means the western corridor would be a key target area of the club). This is the only way a Brisbane3 club would be of benefit to the competition and RL in Queensland.

How does Brisbane Jets sound?

So are we all in agreement that the best Brisbane bid is a joint Easts Tigers and Ipswich Jets club with Easts Tigers leading?

Tigers are the only existing club with the money to do it, but can't use the Tiger in the NRL.

NRL wants a team in the West to have a spread of teams in SEQ that all have their own patch.

Ipswich has the juniors and the brand that resonates out west, but they are broke.

A partnership, as was attempted in 2021 makes complete sense. "Brisbane" Jets would be a tricky name as Ipswich is a different city. Ipswich Jets will be blocked by the QRL for some f**ked reason as we found out with the Dolphins. 'Wests' and 'Western' will be taken by Tigers and Perth. Broncos seemingly don't want Brisbane used.

We may end up with The Jets.

Agree with everything there and seems like most people now including on this forum are on the same page, Easts Tigers and Ipswich Jets are gonna have to come together to make this work.

And I don't see any issue with the Brisbane name being used. When Brisbane Bombers was proposed I don't remember there being anyone being against the name from the Broncos. If they are against any other club being called Brisbane it would be petty and narrow minded.
There are two huge football clubs in Manchester, Manchester City and Manchester United. There are two huge football clubs in Madrid, Athletico Madrid and Real Madrid. There are two huge American Football teams in New York. NY Giants and NY Jets. Two football clubs in Berlin, Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin. Based on this evidence, it's not gonna make a single bit of difference if there's another club called Brisbane.
Only in RL do irrelevant issues like this become a talking point.

It has to be Brisbane Jets with Easts Tigers having majority ownership (or seats on the board), based in Ipswich and playing a handful of games in Ipswich and the remaining games in Brisbane centre. The Brisbane in Brisbane Jets represents Easts Tigers as a central Brisbane located club.

Also I wasn't aware that a merger had already been attempted previously. Anyone know what the stumbling blocks were?

Yep agree with your comments on the Brisbane name. And also, QRL should stop being petty with name usage when QRL brands get promoted.

Brisbane Jets / Brisbane Firehawks merger talks were a last minute desperate attempt to defeat the Dolphins bid which was the leading bid. I'd say given more time and thought it could work.
