Just read that Sean Briscoe has been released by Wigan for salary cap reasons, imo this is bad business by Wigan, they should've p'd off Lam and/or Dallas and kept Briscoe, i just watched the Euro Nations final in which Briscoe was man of the match and he really did look a class act.

Not sure where he'll end up but Wigan's loss is somebody else's gain

Hope they both go to a mid table club. Hull don't need them, they already have Horne and Prescott at full back.

This is the beauty of the cap, it evens the competition up.

I agree Rich but it hasn't worked out as we'd hoped, Briscoe to Hull for 3 years and Johnners has signed for Bradford.

Uncle Mo's in a bad mood

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Wigan vote in favour of the cap?

"Under normal circumstances I wouldn't dream of letting them go," said Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay, who is furious at the salary cap restrictions.

He claims are supported by "unsuccessful" clubs who threaten the sport's ability to attract top players.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: "We have to lose two fine young players and this is the sadness of the salary cap. Some unsuccessful clubs are pushing to restrict spending.

"But this desire is hurting the game because it means clubs such as Wigan struggle to keep hold of both quality and promising players.

"If we aren't allowed to match rugby union in terms of attractive financial packages, then we shall continue to lose more players to them. What is a player supposed to do faced with these choices?"

From the BBC

I've not laughed as much since Mo was led a merry dance by Gasnier.

Mo is bleating that he has to release Briscoe and Johnson and that he can`t sign a good crop of youngsters next season because of the salary cap .Well it was his prerogative to keep the likes of Lam , Pongia ,O`Connor and Cassidy who are all the wrong side of thirty .He should also remember how he was able to sign the likes of Lam ,Pongia ,Renouf and Ainscough . It was because their NRL teams didn`t want to keep them and stifle the young talent that was coming through behind them . If Mo wants a team of old men then keep letting the kids go and give the rest of the league a free shot at them .

The cap has stopped stupid clubs like Wigan from going bust.

Before the cap was introduced (98) the pies were in a mess.

I have their financial accounts from 1997 and their salaries were 1.7 times their turnover. That equates to a salary cap %age of an incredible 171%.

Widnes and Leeds almost went bust as well from over spending.

Lindsay says that GB would have won the Ashes if Robinson had stayed in RL. Maybe so but would Carney have hit the big time?

Wigan have an outstanding crop of young talent and it is BECAUSE of the salary cap.

If i was Mo i would've cut Dallas, Lam & Cassidy
the production line is going great and i expect David Allen and Harris Hansen to be better than Mick Cassidy.

for the life of me i don't understand why Wigan are persisting with these older players.

Briscoe will come back to haunt them the only problem i see is that at Hull he may play out of position.

Prescott current fullback
R. Horne Best young Fullback i have seen since Lockyer
Briscoe looks like he may be on the wing.
