No use whinging about the refereeing, that just glosses over what was our worst performance of the year. It was coming TBH and we just need to get through next week before a much needed bye.

Rads is just going to have to change his technique because the rules aren't changing. Having said that I would challenge the first charge and accept the 2nd. Doing so would result in 4 weeks either way so trying to get it down to 3 is worthwhile and I might be blind but I still can't see high contact in that first charge.

I think we will be at the judiciary for Angus as well, I don't even recall the alleged incident and it is one week either way so worth the effort to try and get him off.

Young Walker learned a tough lesson. He was always odds on to throw an intercept and yesterday was that day and it probably cost us the match in the end. It is all part of the development though and he will only learn from the experience.

I'm an eternal optimist and still believe that even with the 3 ACLs we are the 3rd or 4th best team in this comp if we can get/keep everyone else on the field. We just need to get through next week and hopefully claw our way to a win and then after the bye start getting some troops back.

Will watch the replay before giving my points.

I do seem to follow you on these threads, don’t I.
I just wanna get out of the way that I thought the ref was out of his depth and was going harder on us than the Broncos. And he looks like a nice person. That said, we were terribly disappointing. Our hands were awful and it appeared to me that we thought we were expecting a comfortable night. They thought they’d put on a show for Friendy and the fans. After the initial scare, things were back to normal when they hit the front. No doubt the intercept (we knew it was gonna come one day) changed the game. I’ll take an intercept every day if Sam can continue his free flowing, ad-lib style of play. He’ll get more judicious with experience.

Rads will have to suck it up and take the four weeks, I’m afraid. The edict means you simply can’t make contact with the head so you can’t defend it at the judiciary. The first sin bin? I’m not sure he missed, Valheru. The merkin feigned dead so unless he comes out saying he faked it, he’s done. We’re gonna see a lot more of those unless defenders decide to not bother charging down a kicks anymore. The Angus charge mystifies me as I thought it was a great, hard tackle.

Robbo has to tweak the way he motivates the boys. We lost out shit trying to target Arrow and again trying to give Friend a good send off. Again this is where we miss Boyd’s leadership. I’m worried for next year cos I have a sinking feeling he’ll retire at the end of the year whether by another head knock or his body is telling him to retire. Anyway...

You are probably right on the Radley one, no point challenging. Hopefully Freddy does us a favour and picks him so that Origin counts as one of the 4 games. How does that work by the way? Does he have to be purposely picked for origin to count?

We will be at the judiciary for Angus, I feel certain of it. They will want to give him the opportunity to play origin and even if found guilty it is 2 games (1 of which would be origin).

Another point which we briefly raised in the game day thread but no one was able to give clarity. The Ikuvalu drop out? Is the dead ball line treated differently to the side line or did the ref get it wrong? It happened again in the next game so seems the former is correct.

We’ve seen it before when the defending team kick deep into the ingoal from kickoff, the receiver catches the ball on the full with a foot out and earning his team a penalty. So in that case it’s treated the same as the side line. In this instance, despite the ball being kicked well dead, after bouncing in the ingoal, Iku caught the ball on the full despite already having crossed several steps past the dead ball line. Apparently he should’ve let it bounce again in the dead zone before touching it. Never seen it before and it’s the ref being more pedantic when officiating us than anything else.

Just read that Rads is challenging some of the offences. Hoping to only serve one game only.

He is hoping to serve one game for each offence so 2 weeks total as opposed to 4 weeks. Specifically, he has plead guilty to both but is seeking a downgrade for the 2nd one.

Angus has outright plead not guilty and I can't say I blame them for that one.

The Broncos players managed to get under the skin of both JWH and Victor, putting both of them off their games. In those situations they need to learn to channel any aggression properly and not get sucked in to doing undisciplined things, which is what the opposition want.

The game was a flat out repeat of the South’s game where we lost our heads with misdirected aggression mixed with a degree of panic stations. The crackdown no doubt played a part but we were our own worst enemies.

I’m fast running out of patience with the way the game is heading. The NRL wanted to quicken the game up but decided as a cost saving measure to go back to one ref putting more pressure on officials to get decisions right. And then as an added bonus they decide overnight to make a major change to the way the game has been reffed since time immemorial where the refs now have absolutely no discretion. Talk about a pressure cooker. It’s the way of the future but I’m not a fan.

These observations are not excuses as to why we convincingly lost but more of an observation in the way the game is heading. We just have to adapt.

I have to agree with everything that has been said on here, except that I understand why they are making the changes in the game that they are making. I like what Robbo said on NRL 360 a couple of weeks ago where cool heads should prevail, and a review take place in the off season with a team of experts and specialists. A methodical approach would have been better than a rushed, knee jerk type of reaction that we are getting now.

We were awful the other night, but largely our own worst enemies. Poor discipline, emotional exuberance, badly misdirected focus and ineffective execution cost us dearly in the end. Unfortunately, Kevvie was made to look like a master tactician, which from our perspective was most disappointing.

Anyway, it is back to the drawing board for this Saturday but, with losing Victor and Angus last night, that task just got that much harder unfortunately. I think we will be up against it this week as well TBH. Fingers crossed, but it could be a bit of a worry for us. Easts to win.
