Or anyone else for England number 7, Myler, Burrow etc in the four Nations, I originally had Brough as a certainty but I haven't seen him play well since his ankle injury.
Lomax just looks like an all-round good player, he'd be my pick unless Brough has a sensational game v Leeds.

Brough was the Scottish #7 in the last World Cup, right? I quite liked him, though that could be my Scottish bias coming through.

Lomax struggles with his kicking game.

Not sure about Widdop, but given that Smith and Cronk do all the kicking for Storm, i can imagine that being his weakest point.

So basically it should be Widdop, Lomax or Myler at the moment. Along with a good kicking half back. Myler can kick (he did for Salford), but like Widdop doesn't do it that often for his club so i would not say him. Brough is playing terrible at the mo.

I'd say Sinfield is our best bet at first receiver at the moment. He can be the steady organising kicking influence, and his partner can be more of a runner. He was rubbish in the exiles game, but he was badly out of form back then. The fact that Leeds play is directly related to how Sinfield plays shows he is a very good player. Coupled witht he fact there is no one else.

In the future it will be a Myler, Ratchford combination. ;-)

No one mentioning McGuire? He has been 7 for Leeds since he came back from injury and is getting back to his form from last season that would have seen him a cert in the England team.

All this talk about Sinfield controling things is partly true but McGuire really developped into a top playmaker last season and when he plays well and controls the game, Leeds are a very tough team to stop. McGuire is now the long term 7 for Leeds and it is a position I have been saying would be his best for years on Southstander. I think Leeds have only lost 5 or 6 games with McGuire there out of the 30 odd he has started in his career. Not bad going.

I'm a massive fan of McGuire (he is a massive reason why I adopted Leeds as my #2 team) but he has never really produced on the international level, I would love to see him produce though, I think he could help narrow the gap between you guys and us Aussies, which would only be good for international rugby league.

Perceptions go a long way towards how a set of fans think in sport. A lot of people still think McGuire is just a 1 trick pony because he scored 36 tries, most from backing up, 7 years ago when he burst on to the scene. He hasnt been that player for about 3 or 4 years now. Last year he was the dominant half in the comp and carried Leeds to the cup final and single handedly beat Wigan at the DW in the playoffs. Without him we fell to pieces at the start of this season and in the final play off game at the end of last year. In the SL we have won 8 of our last 9 games now. In each game McGuire has been getting more of a hand in things and last night had a very good game. He creates so much and isnt even much of a back up player now because of the 3 major knee injuries he has had. He used to rely on his speed but since the 1st bad injury he lost a lot of speed and has had to evolve into a proper half. The majorty of good things Leeds have done in the last 2 seasons have come through his hands or feet.

I rate McGuire however he doesn't do much kicking. He's a running 1/2 with Widdop & Tomkins both running players. A kicking option is best to go there

That was my theory, hence i said Sinfield as he does the main kicking for Leeds.

Basically i went through the table and:
Warringtons is Foreign (Briers is Welsh(well at least he stuck with them)),
Wigans is either to old (Deacon) or foreign (Finch),
Saints don't seem to have one (Eastmond but he ain't an option),
Giants out of form and Scottish (Brough) then Leeds.

Both Wigan and Warrington have players coming through, but they are a few years away (Mellor (Wigan) and O'Brien(Warrington)) and Myler is still another season of development from the national team (although Warringtons left side is awesome at the mo).

McGuire's not just a running half any more though. Thats the point I tried to make before. His kicking is very good when he gets a chance. Far superior to Burrow and i'd even go as far as saying that Sinfield hasn't got the best kicking game out of hand. If you can find any games from the end of last year you will see that McGuire continually pins the opposition back with kicks into the corners over the top. He isnt the player he was a few years back. He is so much more.

Theoretically, if you were to run with:
7. McGuire

13. Sinfield

Who would you have at 5/8?

Depends who you support!! ;-)

I'm biased so i'd have Myler running the left with Atkins outside of him. Add in Hall as a winger then you get a powerful side in both defence and attack. Tomkins can follow behind to take advantage of any holes that are punched through. Mylers try scoring and assist record is excellent. His defence is very under rated.

Mylers only problem is a lack of experience in running a game (For Wire its M Monas and Briers' job). Hence why in the Exiles game with an out of form Sinfield he struggled a bit. By struggled i mean he still scored a try and looked dangerous.

McGuire/Widdop/Lomax can run the right hand side with Bridge and Briscoe, again with Tomkins sniffing behind.

Two fast and strong flanks with Sinfield controlling things in the middle and kicking from behind a very good pack. Tomkins can attack broken areas and use his pace as a second wave attacker.

Myler played in the Exiles game and decided that an international scrum half needs do nothing more than simply stand out wide and wait for someone to make a break. No thanks.

Lomax for me. Mind you, Gaskell can't be too far away from a place in the squad.

McGuire was excellent last year, has his form really matched that this season though? He hasn't really stood out when I have seen Leeds play, it's been more Sinfield controlling the game from 6.

Time to bring Gaskell and Lomax through. When I see Myler play he has some great touches but doesn't look comfortable leading the team around. How old is he? McGuire has had his chance.

McNamara will probably find room for both of them as props.
