Is he just rusty? Or has he lost it? to be fair, he's had an extensive lay-off through his torublesome knee injury, but 'Fair dinkum' his performance for the Magpies against Newtown yesterday was woeful. I'm not one to put to boot in to players, as i respect the fact theat they've made it to the elite level, but going on a player that had ability and talent, it seems to have all of a sudden disappeared. A man with a wealth of expereince, looked too afraid to take on the line, he threw wild passess all day that went astray and more times that not went over the sideline. His kicking game? Where do we start? Innsaneo Jnr had more flight off his boot. One kick that stands out, was when he basically chipped it straight in to a Jets player. Personally, i don't think he will be considered for 1st Grade at all for the remainder of the season. His form was embarrasing.

after a year out of the game you'd expect him to be rusty ... and you have to admire his incredible effort to even get back on the field , when it could have been all too easy to have just hung up the boots .

but in the past I think his best games were as a centre running at holes rather than as a playmaker .

Micky's kicking game has always been below par.......he should never kick again.....

Gobbs, you also must consider that a lay off longer than that would bring a footballer to his knees ability and confidence wise.....he will play the rest of his career out in the PL but its not his fault - his body just can't take it

Yeah , i think Mick's probably a while off first grade yet, and the fact he was ordinary yesterday doesnt surprise me, give him a few weeks i say.

I agree with gus here. Buettner had two great seasons at Northern Eagles but other than that he has never shown himself to be more than an average first grader. Last year he was a joke and I was, sadly, extremely happy when he was injured

I feel the same about Reynolds injury this year - and I agree with you about Buettner - but would say his best years were at the Bears playing behind Jason Taylor!

or is just that he's a centre and not a half?

He's a centre, but only of Premier League standard.
Was at his prime (as Snide suggests) when playing for the Bears.

I think it is difficult for players like Buettner and Nick Graham to get interested in lower grade matches. They were both first graders (a while ago) and probably don't have much of a chance of ever getting back there. Playing at henson park against newtown certainly would emphasise how far away they are from their days in first grade.

Dont worry about fat lips Gould and what he says.
I can't stand Gould he look's like a thug in a suit.Buettner had some marvellous years with the Bear's and that should be recognised.

Perhaps you should watch the highlight tapes of Parra circa 2001, not only did he have it, but he was sensational in both attack and defence.
Amazing how people can lay into a guy who has spent so long on the sidelines and fought his way back from a serious injury, can't wait to see what you say about Richards should he be rusty also after his terrible run with injuries

While I can understand this it just emphasises to me why they SHOULDN'T be in first grade.

Sometimes getting dropped seperates the players with the right attitude from those we don't want better than anything else could. When wilson was dropped he took it like a man and went on to give his all to the PL matches - he earned his recall.

Graham has done nothing to earn his way back and so, as you say, he will be unlikely to see first grade again.

Both Graham and Buettner have shown little interest in being there and against the Jets Buettner in particular went missing. He did try but did not take control as I expected. He may well be rusty so I will give him a few games to get back into a rythym.

Graham got smashed early in the game against us but I have not seen him play apart from that. He just appears to have slowed down too much to play NRL again.

What are your thoughts.

Go Parra

he played some good games that year but really only played a bit part. It was Taylor who ran the show and Beuttner was allowed to run. If I recall, and could be wrong, but he played a lot of the year off the bench anyway. Go Parra I have plenty of astute Parra fans who were relieved to see Mick leave the club. I like Mick Beuttner but he offers noting to our club. Added to that he is one of the worst defenders ever to play first grade

cheers
