Burgess to miss Academy games

Not good for England.
On the Schoolboys tour - Australia plays BARLA at the Coupland Stadium, just where is that again? And they also play a game against the GB Community Lions, what exactly is the make-up of that team, as opposed to BARLA?

Copeland stadium is in Cumbria near Whitehaven, GB community Lions not sure but i would think they would be drawn from non heartland teams in Wales, Scotland, southern England, check www.therfl.co.uk it should be on there.

The Community Lions is the RFL's international amateur side. Some see it as an attempt to undermine BARLA. RFL politics.
So it's the best from BARLA plus the best players from the non-traditonal service areas. Would many young players from outside BARLA be good enough to make this side? Presumably the Community Lions should therefore be better than BARLA. I guess we'll see.

Opinion is divided over whether they would be better. I think probably not since the toughest competitions and therefore, almost by definition, the best players are in BARLA's leagues in the heartlands. It just looks to me as if the RFL is trying to wrest control of the amateur game from BARLA. A classic case of dysfunctional bureaucracy.

BARLA and the Community Lions have been falling out for a few weeks now. An everyday story of RL folk: Last Tackle

It depends which side of the argument you want to believe. The theory is that there are players in the amateur game that are capable of representing their country at amateur level but play in comps that are not organised or administered by BARLA. I mean guys in the military, students, Rugby League Conference, and Wales and Scotland. They can't play for GB because they ain't part of BARLA.

So the RFL (with full co-operation of BARLA) set up a new team GB Community with players selected from all aspects of the amateur game including barla, etc. But now BARLA have thrown a paddy because some ex-pro players now play in amateurs and are eligible for GB Community Lions. BARLA are very precious about the whole amateur thing (which is insane given the history of RL) and have withdrawn approval of the GB Community team.

It's just more bullsh*t from BARLA who don't seem able to accept that times have changed and the game has changed. They did fantastic work in the past, and 95% still do, but so many of the people at the top end are jealously guarding their own positions and protecting their little kingdom.
