Burns breathes easier about return to field

OFF-CONTRACT Manly utility Travis Burns believes a week spent in hospital overcoming pneumonia will see him return in better shape.

The 22-year-old was admitted into hospital on Friday after he came down ``with a bad virus''.
The illness saw him miss Manly's loss to Penrith last Friday night.
But now after losing a couple of kilograms and spending almost a week in hospital, Burns says the illness will have little impact on his football.
``I don't see it as a setback,'' he said yesterday.
``I reckon it might be a good thing, take some positives out of it.
``I'll get back into the gym when I can and put some weight back on.
``I might be better for it.''
Burns said the illness has put a slight delay on his future contract plans.
With a couple of offers on the table from rival NRL clubs, the young Queenslander knows he is faced with an important decision.
``I'm in no rush,'' Burns said.
``I've got a couple of offers that I need to weigh up.''
Burns is tipped to leave the Sea Eagles and accept a three-year deal with the Cowboys who are desperate for a long-term five-eighth.
The youngster is keen to play five-eighth but will get limited time in the role with NSW back Jamie Lyon the preferred option in the halves.
Burns has filled the utility role for the club off the bench in recent weeks.
He said he will spend the next week ``eating-up'' before hitting the gym when he gets the medical clearance.
``I have already started to eat,'' Burns said as he chewed away on a sandwich.
In other contract news, Chris Hicks is considering offers from England, while Brent Kite is believed to have committed himself to Manly for 2008.
The NSW front-rower had the option of shopping around at the end of this season, but will remain at Brookvale Oval.

nooo i want hicks to stay as well as burns get lyon out of 5/8 he has not played particuarly well there all year and with monas leaving next year we definetly have room for burns
1-Stewart 2-Robbo 3-Lyon 4-Bell 5-Hicks 6-Burns 7-Orford 8-Kite 9-Ballin 10-King 11-Menizes
12-Stewart 13-Watmough 14-Matai 15-Perry? 16-Bryant 17-Williamson/Hall

keep this and we have a shot at a premiership this year and next, if not we will struggle next year i think with inexperienced wings, poor halve combo and no impact from the bench
