Buttriss, Waddell, Flanagan ??

Withers is gone (thank god) but Furner now has three NRL standard hookers in Buttriss, Waddell and Flanagan

... Flanagan would be on twice as much as the other two but from what I've seen of him at the Tigs and yesterday he is imo 3rd in line

... Waddell hasnt played at NRL level yet and he has a small frame but has proven that he can put the big hit on players twice his size in 20's. Imo he was a standout in the first 2nd tier FG trial and will therefore place pressure on the other two.

... Buttriss is the incumbent and imo was part of the reason for the Raiders success in the last 10 games of 2009.

I reckon Furner will fall into the same trap as many other and play Withers, err errr I mean Flanagan cause he's on the msot $$$ and therefore must be better ... Waddell is still eligible for u20's, so that will "solve" Furner's problem for a while but not the club's as unless we recently extended his contract he'll be picked up by a Qld NRL club (and what is a contract worth these days anyway) ... Buttriss will return to Logan and Flana's will be the 1st choice.

 Fire up son..

if The Flanno is third pick we are in Excellent shape imo,if i had things my way i would have had Waddel in with the top flighters last year.

On Butts the jury is still out a little for me,Clean service, solid defence, but maybe a little predictable??

But i suppose after round 1's result i will come down on the Decision makers with fists of fury pending results.

Waddell's time will come, I think we are in a better position than having both Linc and Hinchy in our squad. The addition of Flanno's will be good for the green machine. Im a 1/2 glass full man , I believe ( and hope ) that Furner will do the right thing for the club.

Not sure what you mean by "Wadell's time will come" mate ... if your thinking is based on age I think, with due respect, that it is flawed ... dont want to use the old cliche but I will anyways, if he's good enough he's old enough ... he's a wielly little customer, good service, goes for the dart and generally mixes up his play ... Buttriss does the same but is more solidly built ... not sure about Flano but he's the more predicatable of the three from what I have witnessed so far.

Oh I wholly agree that if your good enough your old enough , I said this in many discussions on here and elsewhere. I just think he will have to mix it up with the bigger boys before he ventures into our FG game. from what Ive seen last year he has FGer written all over him, its just that Butts is the incumbent and deserves 1st crack ( which also includes his trial form )
We've bought Flanno's for a reason , guys better credentialed than me have touted this guy as super talented, of course if his form isnt upto scratch then he may have to spend time up in QLD , but I dont think this will happen I reckon Flanno wont let anyone down.

Agree with what you say mate.

The guys on the Tigs forum reckon that Flana's would have played more FG other than the fact that Farrah was in front of him ... all that tells me is that he is somewhere between 0% and 99.9% as good as Farah.

I'd rather make my own judgement of the guy and from the limited opportunity I've had to see him wield his craft I think that Buttriss and Waddell are better suited and will enable Campo to have more freedom.

Time will tell ... and dont get me wrong I'm not on Flana's back before he has time to establish himself ... I just dont think he should be given a free ride and Furner should not justify his selection just because of the $$$'s he takes up on our cap.

IMO

Hooking duel: Travis Waddell won hands down. Flanno was solid but we looked 1000x better with Waddell at hooker, he was a live wire out of the rake position, Flanno i rate but he has work to do based on yesterday if he wants to be playing FG ahead of Butt and Waddell, it probably helped waddell that most the side was his team mates last year but gee he's a talent.

Based on what we've seen so far, Butts would start and the #17 jersey would belong to travis waddell for our Rd 1 FG side

Im rapt by the reports from 69 and Bay on Waddell from yesterday's trial, if Waddell and Butts are our best 2 come Rnd 1 ,then they should be in the 17.

This will interesting what dave does , he may not play with an extra hooker on the bench all the time , he may mix it up depending who we play.

We have another young hooker coming up through the ranks in Josh Mitchell ... only 16 but showed a football brain way ahead of his years in yesterdays trials ... stocky little guy in the mould of Brett Boyd.

Lets not forget Ben Picker
who from my viewing (which admitably hasnt been a great deal) is actually the most talented of a very talented picker family.

What's so funny ?? Half a dozen clubs were after Flanagan ..

Flanno is a good player and im sure he'll be of value to us, but if Travis Waddell was off contract, forget half and dozen clubs, there would be 16 nrl clubs chasing his signiture. Especially considering he's only 17, mayb 18...

Btw just for the records ... based on 2008 records

Waddell: 178cm, 78kg, 19.5yo

Flanagan: 176cm, 82kg, 22yo

I suspect the Waddell would have made up the 4kg diff ... not sure about Flana's making up the 2cm height differential

So there goes the myth that hes too small. For me it's simple if Waddell keeps performing like this in the next 2 trials then he has to get a go. He showed the exact same qualities for the u20s last season, whenever he came on we looked so much better through his explosiveness.
