Byron Bay, the Long Weekend and Camping in the Rain

I am supposed to be camping at Byron this long weekend, but the weather looks like constant rain and thunderstorms.

Is there a Byron Bay local on here who might have a "feet on the ground" locals feel for what the weather is going to be like this weekend? (Friday to Monday).

I can handle "some rain periods" but sitting in a tent in constant rain in Winter and copping a big storm as well is not my idea of family fun. I'd rather burn a deposit than throw good money after bad.

Friday 12-18 rain periods
Sat 13-17 rain periods
Sun 12-17 rain periods
Mon 12-18 rain periods

I'm half an hour north at Tweed but their weather is pretty much same as ours and thats based on our postcode not Gold Coast weather.

17 and 18 is pretty f**king cold assuming your from Brissy (you'll be used to warmer weather) but I guess thats because of the rain. Not much beach weather but also Byron will be packed so I hope you like crowds.

The top pub is the place to be.

Yeah, but the idea is camping, with kids. So sitting in a Pub nice and warn dowing beers and listening to the band and eating in nice warm restaurants etc on a rainy long weekend, which sounds OK is not camp cooking, fishing, surfing and getting out in the boat while sleeping in a tent - none of which is either a) fun or b) possible, when its raining and cold (with the exception of surfing, which the kids won't want to do in this weather even if Dad would be happy on a longboard in the 3 to 5 ft swell being predicted).

I think I'm gonna bail unless some local tells me the BOM/Weather Channel is overly pessimistic and some rain periods is all we'll get.
