why the NSW Cup isn't a NSW Cup? The Qld Cup has teams from Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, Burleigh, Tweed Heads & with another to come from Caloundra next year. The NSW Cup has clubs from as far-reaching as Newcastle (I'm not counting the Aukland team as it doesnt make the comp a NSW comp.

We keep hearing that league in the bush is dying, so why not have a comp that includes areas outside Sydney?

Here's a short list of teams that could make it:

Albury (on the Vic boarder & could help spead the game in Vic)
Coffs (major centre of northern nsw)
Tamworth/Amirdale
Woolongong
Newcastle
Canberra/Wagga Wagga (or both)

Add a few teams from Sydney to that:

Norths, Newtown, Parra

& you've got a comp that can claim to be the NSW Cup.

I reckon something like this would really help the development of players in the NSW bush & with the Toyota Cup there's probably less of a need for 2nd/3rd grade teams in Sydney.

(Btw so I'm not being biased, the Qld Cup really needs a team from Bundy & Toowoomba (if they can get money back I'm fine to have the Clysdales back))

Your delving into CRL jurisdiction there
Well it's a little ridiculous having both a NSWRL and a CRL anyway. It made sense 70 years ago to duplicate administrative structures on a local and regional basis when distance was the great barrier in terms of transport and communication. But seriously, this is the 21st century. Outside of the multi million dollar professional league run by the NRL, there's no valid reason to have anything but a single re-constituted ARL running the second tier comp/s itself and which all third tier regional, group, and metropolitan leagues answer to directly. The NSWRL, CRL and QRL are just a wasteful duplication of administration whose day has past.

The QRL do a lot of good work up here. I think it's rediculous how the NSWRL doesn't look after the whole of NSW.

If the comp was run by the ARL would that get over the politics?

Btw this isn't a dig at the NSWRL but they really need to do a lot more to strengthen league in the bush, I've got mates in Coolamon (near Wagga Wagga) who support AFL teams! WTF!!

Probably not. Politics in RL administration is a given. But you're deluding yourself if you think the QRL isn't run by politics - City vs Country, South vs North. Although it has improved markedly since the SL war, prior to that the QRL was a little empire run from Brisbane, for Brisbane, at the expense of RL in the rest of the state. There are plenty of good RL people in the north of the state who happily followed the Cowboys to SL after the QRL not only failed to give their full blessing to the local bid for entry into the NSWRL but then turned around and ran their own rival bid (the Crushers) with state money so they could build up their own little Brisbane empire to rival the Broncos.

Doesnt the letter " N " before NRL stand for national. National rugby league. New Zealand is another country last time I looked at an atlas.

Well while we're at it the "N" doesn't stand for Australia either. The NRL is a private company that makes a profit from running a successful professional RL comp. Given that New Zealand is the third biggest RL market in the southern pacific (after NSW and QLD) and considerably more RL inclined than many parts of Australia, it'd be a stupid move on the part of a company looking to run a successful RL comp to exclude that market based on nothing more than selfish patriotic and nationalistic prejudice. Not to mention the damage it would do to RL as a game, especially at the international level, to cut New Zealand adrift from the top tier of club competition. Next thing you'll be telling us we should restrict the professional game to the confines of NSW - after all, drawing the line at the Murray River and Tweed Heads is just as arbitrary and logical as drawing it at the Tasman Sea. And it'll keep all those dirty Queenslanders out of our comp. You know you just can't trust their sort. Sheesh!

Actually you have me mistaken for someone who even cares. My point was how farkin pointless this whole thread was/is in the first place . I truly don't care if NZ are in the NRL ,or who is even in the NRL for that matter.

They have battled hard in a majority of Rugby Union to get a foot hold down there. Were in finalcial crisis back in year 2000 and have seem to come back nicely with some semi final appearances. Good luck to em.

This comp is hugely important to us in NZ, not just the Vulcans but other teams that give our top tier players who haven't got into an NRL side but want to compete at a higher level.

I'd love to see a Christchurch team in the NSW comp which is the other stronghold of league in NZ. I know it is another stretch of resources but the whole city (.5 million) is sports mad and have already got the administration brains to make it a success as the rugby and other sports have proven. You'd get bumper crowds too.

Set Sa who plays for the Jets and Roosters, comes from the Christchurch rugby and league nursery.

SA is an awesome player mate. Unfortunately he is off with injury at the moment. Great to watch him play though, and real fair bloke to boot.
