can we do it all again in 2010?

hey guys,

we had a huge year this year. from early season frustration to end of season partys, i was wondering who of you guys actually think we can do it all again?

I believe we can, based on the boys we have, and who will come through. Craig's coaching staff is 10/10, and the boys power on week in week out. we have almost an identical team with a few extra's in there wanting to come back, ready to go. i think 2010 will see the first team go back to back since the broncos, and see that 2-2 record turn into 3-2, and 4-2 overall!

also who do you think will make the side?

mine would def be:

Slater
Quinn
Stanley
Inglis
Neilson
Finch
Cronk
Tolman
Smith
White
Blair
Hoffman
Lowrie

Hinchcliffe
Tandy
Lima
Procter
18th man: Manu

not gunning for the minor preimership as helped out heaps aswell! but if we were in the position i would want them attempting to secure it back in melbourne, but as we found out this year, without it, a preimership is oh so much sweeter!

what are you guys' thoughts on our title defence?

Cant put down what i think the team will be...but with the players that are leaving and the ones that are joining our club...i dont see why we shouldnt be top 4 next year.

Identical team - we have again lost 9 players and one assistant coach? Can't see anyone beating Eels in 2010 except the Eels (Manly implosion).

Our biggest issue is the 1st 5 rounds as I think we will suffer the way we did last year - the cohesion does kick in till about round 6.

Other factors :
Johnson gone (Big Big hole to fill) not sure that Lowrie is the man
Chase Stanley (unknown quantity)
Lack of front rowers (White and kite under the knife).
Inglis court case (April).
New stadium - remember when the Broncos first moved.
Cronk missing start of season
New backs coach

We have a great team on paper but top 4 in my opinion.

They played good footy for 10 weeks. They've signed some good forwards, but who is to say Jarryd Hayne will be playing out of his skin footy for 26 rounds next year? It's incredibly unlikely. Is Fuifui going to be the best prop in the game, or will he go back to being the prop that we've seen for the past 3 seasons (good, but not great).

Parra had an amazing run, but people are being very premature in declaring them winners in 2010. Storm deserve to be favourites, but there are only five or six teams that I would rule out at this stage.

Sorry Josh, cant take that team seriously if you have Sika as an 18th man. Fully fit he is our best forward.

I know you might want a replacement for Johnson but i really don't think Lowrie deserves a spot in our starting squad.

I think we can do it. We are just as strong as last year and this year we will have Manu back. IMO when he is in form he is close to the best forward in the NRL. He fills a hole that no-one else in our pack can and we will be a lot stronger with him.

true about Manu but i heard he is going to not be ready until round 2 so i went by that. i would def have him in our team, over lowrie, but if he is out, then there is no choice!

i think lowrie would be suitable for a bench spot at least, and a spot in the 13 at best. oh how good it feels to be free from scott anderson!

Well, we have a better squad this season than last imo, and the games best in Bellamy at the helm again, so I don't see why not.

My side would be:

1. Slater
2. Quinn
3. Stanley
4. Inglis
5. Neilson
6. Finch
7. Cronk
8. Tolman
9. Smith
10. White
11. Blair
12. Hoffman
13. Proctor

14. Hinchcliffe
15. Lima
16. Manu
17. Lowrie/Tandy

Obviously not for round 1, but when everyones fit I think this should be the team. Stanley, Lowrie and possibly Quinn need to prove they deserve their spots, but I would give them first crack.

if anything, i think tandy would be more deserving of that position for sure!

I tend to agree with you regarding our chances for 2010.
First month without Cronk/White/Tandy is going to be hard.

Hoping for a top 4 spot and take it from there.

PS. Inglis will be right.

There is no doubt about it. Tandy was one of the main reasons our forwards kicked into gear in the late part of the season. I think he was pretty much our best prop (maybe Lima was better) and he was way in front of White or Tolman.

I also think Lowrie would make a very poor bench player.

The choice between Tandy and Lowrie will come down to if Bellamy wants another prop or backrower on the bench. As for all those bagging off Lowrie, thinking he isn't even good enough for our bench (just to clarify, I realise that's not exactly what your saying Billythekid), just remember that the man who signed him has turned forwards with far less "pedigree" into premiership mainstays. Garrett Crossman, Ian Donnelly, the Cross brothers, Jeff Lima, Jeremy Smith etc, not to mention Ryan Tandy himself. All of these guys where virtually on the scrap heap when we recruited them, whereas Lowrie was starting for the current runners up!

Bellamys seen something in him, otherwise he wouldn't have been signed.

I also think people are making a bit too much of the injuries to White, Tandy and Kite for the start of the season:

8. Lima
9. Smith
10. Tolman
11. Blair
12. Hoffman
13. Proctor

14. Hinchcliffe
15. Manu
16. Lowrie
17. Bromwich

Looks potent enough to me! In fact I'm really excited that Bromwich might get his chance because of this. :D
