That we're technically only 2 wins out of the eight? Now that the Tigs have lost and we get the bye, we would need to win by some fair margins to make up the difference, and the 20 pointers above us would need consecutive losses, but after that, the only team keeping us out are Penrith.

The run in isn't the worst but once in the 8, what then? Unless some changes are made, I don't see a long finals campaign.

No I can't believe it. And I won't. We need six from last seven to make eight. Cowboys are next so that rules out playing parramatta for the rest of the year so our chances are slim to none.

Might as well be a thousand wins outside the eight the way they're going.

Griffin doesn't strike me as someone who is particularly interested in explaining himself to outsiders. He says all the right things like "We just weren't good enough,"and "we've got to own up and try harder," but he doesn't explain why he persists with selections and game plans that fail week after week.

Shane Perry is looking better every day.

Prince's poor rating would be due to his defensive lapses. Wallace's poor rating would be due to his predictability in attack. The odd couple.

Funny you bring up the CVR rating system..
Guess who had the best CVR at the Knights last season?

DANE Gagai will probably always feel indebted to Wayne Bennett, but the Knights coach clearly feels it was a case of money well spent.
Bennett has described Gagai as the NRL?s ??buy of the season?? on the strength of his deeds last year, when Newcastle signed him on the rebound after he was shown the door by Brisbane.
Statistics support Bennett?s lofty appraisal.
According to the Contributor Value Ratings system, devised by NRL Stats to measure a player?s individual input, Gagai was Newcastle?s standout performer during his 12-game stint.
He finished with a team-high CVR game rating of 405.5. Next best was his right-edge partner, Akuila Uate, with 391.69, then star fullback Darius Boyd on 370.9.
Described as a Moneyball-style data base, the CVR rankings might be confusing to the average rugby league fan.
But Gagai?s impact can be measured in more traditional numbers, as well.
In his 12 games, he scored five tries and threw the final pass for six others. He played alongside Uate in 11 of those games and the Test winger crossed for 12 four-pointers.
Operating in tandem, Gagai and Uate scored 16 tries between them ? a strike rate that rekindled memories of Matt Gidley?s famous right-edge pairings with Darren Albert and Timana Tahu.
Gagai joked yesterday that playing alongside Uate made his job easy, but the 21-year-old?s fancy feet and flick passes were weapons in their own right.
??When I came here, we seemed to get along fairly well, and having someone like Aku outside you, he?s always going to make you look good,?? Gagai said.
??There was a few times there where I didn?t do too much but throw him the ball, and he just did everything from there. But it is a privilege to play inside someone like Aku and I?ve just been grateful for every moment.??
The flyer from Mackay exceeded his own expectations after arriving in Newcastle last season with just six NRL games to his name.
Shattered after being let go by the Broncos, he said one meeting at Bennett?s house in Brisbane convinced him his future lay in Newcastle.
??I didn?t expect him to pick me straight away. That was just a bonus,?? he said.
??He pretty much chucked me in the deep end and I didn?t want to let him down ... he?s just been a great mentor and really helped me develop as a player and a person.??
The L-plate flyer hopes a full preseason with his Knights teammates will be his launchpad for bigger and better things this year.
??I look back on last year as a positive but a learning thing as well,?? he said. ??I came halfway through the season and I hadn?t played in the centres in first grade before.
??I?ve still got a lot to learn, but I?ve been working on the little things. I?m feeling fit and strong and looking forward to the trials.??
Contracted for two more seasons, Gagai recently welcomed his younger brother Jacob to Newcastle.
??He?s still only 17 and he?s playing SG Ball,?? he said.
??He plays in the halves and he?s been going well.
??It?s been awesome having him here, having a family member living with me.
??I still get a bit homesick, but I try to get back to Mackay as much as I can.??

We would get steamrolled in week 1, what's the point seriously.

It's just so they can say "we made the finals I get to keep my job now!"

Being 2 wins outside the 8 is just putting a different spin on "we can still mathematically make it". We dont deserve to make the finals and we wont make the finals.

In the year we won the Premiership in 2006, I remember we weren't going well toward the middle of the season.

But I knew we could still win it. Going against the tide, I stuck up for the coach and the team in this forum, insisting that we could make it. I was howled down. I was told I was stupid ... but in the end I was proven correct.

Things have changed. We won't make the finals this year. And in fact, making the finals would be the worst thing that could happen.

The club needs a shake up in my opinion. Management need to get back to what made the club great, and then reinvent the club to flourish in the NRL's new world.

I truly hope we don't win more than two or three games for the rest of the year. No flukes. No good luck games.

We need the losses more the wins, because management need to understand that something is wrong.

Buck the Horse is getting fat ... and so has the club.

Fact is it's not as easy for us as it once was, back in the day we had the pick of all the Queenslanders and that was fine. This was enough to build a top 4 team every year, nowadays we basically do the same thing but do it with the best players we can get that haven't been poached by Canberra, Melbourne, Titans etc... You only have to look at the Raiders side to know we just can't do it like we used to, if the Broncos had the recruitment ability they did 15 years ago Josh Papalii and Anthony Milford would be on our books for a start.
