Cardiff City Rugby League is the result of a merger between Cardiff Spartans and Cardiff Demons Rugby League Clubs. Cardiff Demons were founded in 1997 as an academy level club, with Cardiff Spartans being formed not long afterwards. Both clubs have enjoyed levels of success over the years at both senior and junior level.
The two clubs decided to work together in 2014 following a difficult open age season in which the two teams struggled separately. We are stronger together, pooling our resources and our love of rugby league. Cardiff has a long history of rugby league, being home to one of the first fully professional Rugby Football League clubs, so for the teams to be on opposite sides of the fence did not seem logical.
Our aim is to become the premier club in Wales providing competitive and community focused rugby league whilst remaining commercially strong and sustainable. We want to play at the highest level possible and have big ambitions for the future.
We aim to run men, women and junior teams offering rugby league throughout the year.
Training is currently running every three weeks, moving to weekly in early 2015 and twice weekly during the season. Tickets are available for our first pre-season match against South Wales Scorpions at Cardiff Arms Park on 11th February 2015.
