THE Canberra Raiders have received a massive boost on the eve of their NRL season with star half Todd Carney agreeing to a new deal with the club.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Carney, 21, has rejected massive offers from the Penrith Panthers and Manly Sea Eagles to remain loyal to the Raiders.

A club spokesman said the deal was a two-year extension, with a further two-year option until 2012.

Carney, who is being touted as a potential NSW halfback as early as this year, had reportedly been offered a $2million dollar, four-year deal by the Panthers. The Raiders deal will be $400,000 a year.

A Goulburn junior, Carney has played all his NRL football with the Raiders since debuting in 2004.
The Raiders will make the announcement this afternoon.

Well done to all ... $400K a year is about the amount we should pay for TC.

A big thanks to all those including politicians, ex players, etc that assisted management in getting this one over the line.

Good to hear and certainly makes this supporter very happy.

Holy biscuits Batman!

I can't remember the last time a genuine star player signed with us rather than elsewhere!

It's like 1994 all over again!

 Come on mate, credit where it is due. This is a big day for your club, a very big day. Enjoy it without the rants mate and appreciate the efforts of Donny and the Hawk.

Btw, agree with Edwahu in the other thread, Riolo played the game brilliantly. I don't think Todd was ever going, never did. He got his client the cash by playing the game. Well in.

Great news.Congratulations to management and to TC.If youre going to build a club around him,you have to pay top dollar and i wouldn't swap him for any other 6 or 7 in the comp.

$400K is more than enough for TC. Thank god we didn't go in with a knockout offer straight off the bat (I'm looking at you Bay) - otherwise it would be bye bye Zillman IMO.

The only thing better than Carney re-signing was his comment at the press conference where he said a chat with Laurie "Absolute Fu*king Champion" Daley last week was a key factor in his decision. Laurie said to him that the Canberra old boys network have this year made an agreement to come together to ensure this club remains successful into the future. Best news in a decade.

Make no mistake, 2007 was a watershed year for the running of this club and I think we can now thank the Penrith Panthers for the beginning of this turnaround.

Lookin at you too Chach

But seriously mate I dont see how you could link that with an inablility to sign Zillman .... imo Carney' signature will make if easier for Zillman to make a decision to stay ... Carney has set the standard for others to follow and we can now easily sign a group of marquee players.

I also take not of your comments re Loz being a key factor .... as I said previously, congratulations to all including those that assisted management in getting TC over the line.

I'm a happy man.
