i feel sick.
aside from 2005, i've never experienced my team making the finals. i didn't really follow footy pre-'98 and, while the tigers have had more than their fair share of heartbreaking near-misses in regular season games, it really doesn't compare to losing a preliminary final. not in that manner.
i was at the game last night, it was a fantastic atmosphere and boy did the tigers put in a courageous effort. but it wasn't enough.
this is a new experience for me. i don't know if i can bring myself to watch the grand final next sunday, it's just gonna hurt too much...

It's comparable to being a Balmain supporter in the 80's. History will remember Parra and the Bulldogs as the most dominant teams of that era but Balmain were also up there, we just kept failing at the last hurdle.

I don't usually do the whole 'gracious winner' thing because I find it tends to be a bit patronising, but I want to offer both a sincere e-hug to my mate magpie_man, and sincere congratulations to the Tigers for their performance on Saturday night.
It's obviously no consolation, but imo your team was magnificent and I'll value this win over so many others purely because we had to fight so hard for it. Chin up m_m

Hear hear and with Tuiaki (sp?) back and Lui in his second NRL season, you'll be a force to be reckoned with again in '11. I thought Brown, with whom I was unfamiliar, was outstanding.

Good luck next year and Go the Dragons in the GF

Yeah it does hurt MM , but not as bad as 1 of teams supporters will hurt next weekend i suppose.
We over acheived so we can be proud and great ful to get as far as we did.
Same goes for the roosters and how there supporters will feel.
But Saints altho they will and should be proud of their sides efforts it will hurt on a massive scale if they miss out again.

Its seasons like this that make it all worth it IMO. Going through the tough times, means you will appreciate seasons like this when your side actually performs and makes something of their season.

Broncos fans just don't appreciate it. They've come to expect their team to be in the finals. For me perhaps what made this season so special, other than the Warriors finishing 5th, was the fact that the Broncos didn't make the playoffs.

Magpie_Man, I'm sorry. But these are the moments that make us stronger as fans, and indeed as people. For suffering the agony of defeat you will only feel closer to your team.

I don't pity you for this experience, my friend. If I've pitied anyone it's been those Broncos fans who have supported their team for years and years with the arrogant pretence that their continued success is some God-given right. Thankfully that house of cards has fallen now and that club's supporters can get around to learning some humility.

But as much as the good times just can't keep rolling, humans can't be expected to go through life forever suffering disappointment either (unless they stupidly chose the Sharks as their team - in which case they are sadomasochists, pure and simple). As the memories of 2005 no doubt continue to warm your heart whenever you think back upon them, 1999 still haunts me like the ghost of a deformed child I let drown at summer camp. I know you're hurting right now, buddy. But sometimes you just gotta step aside and let someone else have their moment in the sun.

f**king bullsheet.

I can cop a loss. By the f**king Dragons were piggy backed into the big dance. If the decisions were even, we would have got them easily. If I were a George supporter I'd feel somewhat ashamed...not gloating.

many thanks to my hombres godz, nibbs and weasel. your kind words have lifted me from the doldrums of despair to the courtyard of acceptance.
it's positively inspiring to see that not even club loyalties can fracture the dfc bond.
peace xoxo

magpie_man, I'll always find it comforting knowing that, even long after we've all gone our separate ways, the DFC bond is able to endure the test of time. Whether or not this bond still includes Jeremy John Mohekey - a Porirua local - I'm not sure. But damit, I'd like to find out

We'll win the comp next year, I've never been more confident

we had the second worst injury toll in 2009 and still came third

with tuiaki and moltzen back the nrl might call the whole thing off and hand us the trophy in may

Probably not.

ps magpie_man, I've been meaning to advise you of this but lost your number: Kurt, Martin and I met up for drinks in Auckland.
