With the team Castleford are putting together they could be unstoppable in their attempts to get back into SL, it's a massive boost for them that star youngsters Craig Huby and Michael Shenton have re-signed.

Other recent signings are Peter Lupton, Awen Gutenbiel, Liam Higgins, Tom Saxton, Kirk Dixon, Stuart Donlan and Dwayne Barker.

Here's a good story as well:

MASTER AND 'APPRENTICE' CLASH ON FRIDAY
The Tigers expect to give the England Schools captain Joe Westerman his senior debut on Friday when we face the Manly-Warringah Districts side at the Jungle KO 8.00pm.
And the 16-year-old prospect is set to line up against a Manly and Australian legend in Cliff Lyons. Despite being the ‘other’ side of 40, Cliff is still playing in his local league

They know that they can't afford to linger down in NL1 for too long, if they want to be in the 2009 mix. I think they'll definitely be there among the 14 teams, in some form...

Cliffy in Yorkshire? I'll have to keep my eye out!

Problem with Cas is that they dont attract big enough crowds for the Super League so its doubtful if they would be "invited" in 2009.

Utter rubbish, they were the 7th best supported team this year. They don't have the best ground, but if there's 14 spaces they'll get one on the back of their crowds on condition that they get a new stadium (which is planned).

At present I'd give Cas a franchise. They have good support, especially for a side that has been up and down of late. If they get a new stadium you'd have to rate them above Wakefield, Huddersfield and Hull KR and ahead of any other Yorkshire team eyeing a SL spot.

They're getting more people than Harlequins, Salford, and maybe Huddersfield to name a couple. And I can't think of any other sides who get bigger crwods waiting in the wings for an initation? Definitely not Celtic Crusaders yet.

Ironically,at the moment Cas's team for next year looks stronger on paper than Wakefield's.

As for crowds,Cas average around the 7/8k mark, just a few thousand below the SL average. With a new stadium, they could attract 10,000 every week IMO.

Salford are a stadium appliction away from being as big a club as Hull I feel.

Cas - a mixture of u16/17 plus Terry Matterson (yes) and Craig Huby put the cleaners through the Manly A grade rep team 36-6. There is some good players coming through the ranks there.
