Yep, absolutely awesome... Defence, passing, wet, dry - he's got it all. Now just 3 points behind the Championship leader! :D

Casey is a good prospect but a MotoGP champion is a big call. Casey has been around for a few years first up with LCR in 250cc, then back to KTM in the 125cc championship and now back to LCR in the 250cc races.

He has matured this year for sure, but lets wait and see how he goes. There is still Pedrosa and Dovizioso both world champions in thier own right. It going to be tough for Casey, but a real chance to shine this year.

Look at the young Australian talent out there at the moment. Ant West is a young rider who has the skill to win and has won, gain podiums on 250cc bikes without the major factory support. Also look at WSBK and look at a few or the young Australians racing in there as well.

Yamaha are looking to sign him up for Moto GP next year, only issue is sponsorship but I think it will get sorted out as they want some young talent coming through to Moto GP. will be great to see how he goes with Pedrosa also stepping up with Honda next season in Moto GP.

he definately has enormous potential, was gutted when he crashed on Sunday at Phillip Island!!!!

TEENAGE motorcycle racer Casey Stoner could be the second Australian to join the MotoGP series next season, but on a Honda rather than the much-talked-about Yamaha.

Stoner, who clinched second place in the world 250cc championship with a third placing in the final round at Valencia at the weekend, is on standby for tomorrow's post-season MotoGP tests at the same circuit.

Sources at Valencia at the weekend said a deal between Stoner and the Sito Pons Honda team was agreed to in principle although there are sponsorship considerations involved, especially with the under-performing Max Biaggi, who Stoner could replace, apparently having close ties with the team's major sponsor, Camel.

Stoner was mentioned in relation to a Yamaha MotoGP ride next year, but the Honda negotiations appear to have progressed further.

The surprise signing of fellow-Australian and former Honda stalwart Chris Vermeulen last week for Suzuki's MotoGP team has resolved one element of the volatile rider market, while at the weekend it was announced that Sete Gibenau of Spain would leave Honda to join Loris Capirossi in the works Ducati team, replacing Carlos Checa.

Vermeulen, who rode the Pons Honda MotoGP bike in place of the injured Troy Bayliss at Phillip Island and in Turkey, is expected to have his first outing on the Suzuki in tomorrow's tests.

At Valencia last Sunday, Marco Melandri followed his debut MotoGP success at Istanbul a fortnight ago with a second successive win, being chased all the way by Honda teammate Nicky Hayden.

World champion Valentino Rossi, who fell during qualifying and started from 15th on the grid, finished third but declared it was simply too much of a task to start so far back and win.

Dani Pedrosa celebrated his final appearance in the 250cc championship before graduating to MotoGP with his eighth victory of the season. Stoner, his rival for the title, finished third, riding with an injured shoulder and hand after falling in practice for the race.

Thomas Luthi clinched the 125cc world title, riding cautiously to finish ninth, scoring sufficient points to secure the crown despite a win by his only rival, Finland's Mika Kallio.

he tested and did very well for his first outing. he was quicker than Pedrosa and only 1 second of the pace of Hayden. 4th or 5th quickest for the day.

YOUNG gun motor cycle racer Casey Stoner lived his dream yesterday when he made his long-awaited MotoGP debut aboard a factory Honda V5 at the Valencia circuit in Spain.

In an impressively fast test session, Stoner posted the fourth-fastest time, leading Honda team boss Sito Pons to predict he would challenge for the world championship within two years.

"Casey is fast and calm and he showed today that within two years he can challenge to be at the top of the sport," former 250cc world champion Pons said.

"He has a big talent for MotoGP."

The factory-backed Pons Honda team has offered Stoner a three-year contract in MotoGP to replace fellow Australian Troy Bayliss, who is returning to the superbike world championship.

The proposed deal is set to pitch Stoner, 20, against superstar Valentino Rossi and his 250cc GP rival Dani Pedrosa in next year's MotoGP world championship.

Double 250 world champion Pedrosa will also ride a Honda V5 next year, but the young Spaniard was outpaced by Stoner in Valencia testing yesterday.

"I'm stoked, this has been my dream since I was four years old," Stoner said as he completed the 69-lap test session on a 990cc Honda V5.

"It was pretty cool going out on the track on the same bike, at the same time, as Dani.

"There is a little bit of rivalry between us and I think we both have the goal of beating each other."
Stoner made a big impression when he went faster than established stars Carlos Checa and Sete Gibernau, and Pedrosa, as he made a quick adaptation to MotoGP.

Fellow Australian Chris Vermeulen, 23, who recently left Honda to sign with Suzuki for MotoGP next season, also made his debut for his new team.

Riding a Suzuki V4 Vermeulen set the 13th fastest time of 136.3sec with Stoner ahead on 135.0, just 0.3sec of a second slower than Marco Melandri, who won the Spanish Grand Prix in valencia last weekend.

American rider Nicky Hayden, also on a factory Honda, set the fastest time at 134.4sec on a cool, windy and occasionally rainy day in Valencia.

Stoner just misses
Sportal

Marco Malendri has emerged victorious in a thrilling finish to the Turkish MotoGP ahead of Australian Casey Stoner.

It was a shock victory for Malendri, as he appeared to have no winning chance when trailing Honda LCR rider Stoner and Dani Pendrosa with a lap to go.

Pendrosa crashed on the last lap leaving it a race in two, with the Australian seeking to become the equal youngest winner of a MotoGP, but he was unable to hold out Malendri in his third race.

Nicky Hayden rounded out the podium finishers, and is placed at the top of the overall classification.

Stoner was pleased to have finished runner-up in the race, and even had something to say about Valentino Rossi, who finished 14th.

"I want to thank my team so much for this, we worked hard in the test after Jerez and things really started to come together," Stoner, who lies fourth in the championship, said.

"Valentino said that maybe I didn't have the experience with worn tyres, but I had to correct him and say that in Qatar I had the flu.

"I'm happy to be on the podium, even though I couldn't break the youngest rider record."

Loris Capirossi, second in the points table, missed out on a podium finish for the first time this season while Chris Vermeulen failed to capitalise from pole coming in fifth.

I saw this live, and he timed his run well, and conserved his tyres well, by not racing to an early lead

not bad for a 20 year old

he started his second last race in poll position, so he obviously has the track speed, now he's learing to race

I reckon this kid will be huge
