Parramatta captain Nathan Cayless will undergo X-rays in the hope of being cleared to return from a broken arm for the Eels' must-win home game against Penrith on Saturday night.
Kiwi international Cayless, who's been sidelined for 17 weeks, is "keen as mustard" to help his teammates earn a miracle passage to the finals and has one eye firmly on the end-of-season Tri-Nations series.
"I thought I was a chance to play last week (against the NZ Warriors) but the doctor said it wasn't quite right," said the prop.
"I feel good and I've been doing a lot of tackling at training.
"Being the second time I've broken it, the doctor is going to be cautious but I'm keen as mustard to get out there and play with the boys.
"It's been pretty disappointing not being able to contribute something to the season."
