Ceiling Help - Tradie needed.

Hi all....

hoping there is a tradie in here with some knowledge on internal ceilings.

My house is not even 8 years old... and im noticing just recently that at night when there is less light the roof has visible lines in it almost like the structure above it is pushing down on the ceiling.

Now when i get up on a chair and feel it, the ceiling feels flat and normal, but it is really quite obvious that the structure above it is causing this as it is evenly spaced and turns at right angles.

Im slightly concerned as i had a small roof leak last week during all that rain but im not sure if it is related.

At one point there is a thin crack that has appeared and stretches for about a metre along the visible line.

Any idea's or thoughts welcome. On here or via PM is greatly appreciated.

it wont be the trusses pushing down, more likely the plaster ceiling has let go from the trusses and could be sagging

if its caused by the water leak you'll get a water bubble in the ceiling paintwork, if there is a crack in it, it wont hold water so the ceiling will leak so it sounds like its not the roof leak thats causing it

most ceilings aren't perfectly flat and you dont notice till some one points it out

not quiet understanding what the problem is, a pic would help

are you sure it's just not that your ceiling paint is a bit old and the spackle lines along the joints in the gyprock is showing through the paint?
The spackle lines are two or three inches wide because you apply it with a paint scrapper or putty knife and sand it back.
If your house is 8 years old, could be time to paint the ceilings.

If it was a leak then you may get a stain on the ceiling where it has been pooling eventually and this will give you your answer.

is there any water still in the ceiling ?

Is the ceiling fibrous plaster or gib board ?

If it is fibrous, has it been glued or wadded (straps of fibre soaked in plaster and placed over the ceiling trusses)

do you have access to a straight edge, place it at random areas over the ceiling, should be fitting flat onto ceiling, no rocking on humps or hollows underneath.

I have seen something similar to what you describe when I was plastering, turned out there was around 2/300 gallons of water in the ceiling and it very nearly collapsed.
you could try a nail in random places, if any water comes out you should get a pro in quick.

The leak was only in one place and didn't actually come through the ceiling. Was just dripping from roof onto ceiling. Thanks for info so far. Going to try and get a photo

Even if it is dripping onto the ceiling it is not a great situation unless you can get that fixed as it will eventually warp the ceiling.
