Question being is this an NRL Party or can anyone join in? has Newtown, North Sydney, Western Suburbs or Balmain been approached for some tiny input in the above considering their part in the pathway to where the game finds itself today or is it really a 1998-2008 expose of the "Product" with a few upmarket lunches thrown in? :?

Yeah makes me laugh that it's now the "NRL" celebration and f*ck the clubs that actually started the league.

They really should make more of a reference to all the 1908 clubs including Glebe, Cumberland etc, because without them the NRL wouldn't have a "product" to promote.

Anyway, lets not let the NSWRL's uselessness ruin a great time to be a RL fan.

If the NRL/ARL stuck exclusively to the clubs that have lasted to 100 years, the celebrations would all be confined to inner Sydney. The Leagues want to use the event as an occassion for celebrating the game in Australia as a whole, taking into account where it started, but acknowledging where it has gone. The AFL did similar during its Centenary year in 1996.

I've been really impressed with Centenary plans. The remaining Foundation Clubs have been consulted extensively. We attend around one meeting every two months and are sent loads of emails in between. Even better - the League was able to stitch up a deal with Canterbury to supply merchandise to us. This is a huge boost for the Jets as we do not have to fulfil the crippling minimum order requirements that kill our profit margins and put certain types of merchandise out of our reach. Look out for some new Newtown RLFC Centenary merchandise in the off season.

Next yeasr, we will be present at the February 2 Fan Day at Telstra Stadium and we will be present at another "Fan Day" of our own at the SCG. Both have been organised by the NRL/ARL.

In addition to that there will be Newtown RLFC events. A few of them will be existing events with extra details (e.g. Reunion Day, Season Launch) but there will be other specific events the club is organising.

It is very sad the media only focus on where the game is now rather than an even balance of reporting, however one gets used to it. When the games major custodian is a media empire they get to report what is good for them and only them. Perhaps we can find a squad of 17 young fringe players eager to put on a Glebe or Cumberland jersey and have a charity/celebration game against the bluebags. Might even attract some media interest. On second thoughts, like Darrell KERRIGAN says "Tell him he's dreaming".

G Day Greg. They probably see the 100 year celabration as a " Way to make more cash ", rather than what it should really stand for cobber. Stay safe up there mate.
