why did they pick gosford ant not say other areas too?

gallop has said recently other areas could be applicable for the grant
I'd love to see the CC Bears back as much as anybody, they were well and truly betrayed in the War after they had shown more progressive thinking than any of the other Sydney clubs.

However, I've not heard Gallop mention anywhere else but the CC for the $8M. If you have a link, I'd be glad to see it.

In any case, I thin that time has passed them by for all the reasons outlined above. Mostly, it is that they do not bring anything to the table in terms of expanding the revenue streams of the NRL and their best chance is if a Sydney team goes bust or merges. The only rider for me is that I've heard nought from Wellington since the three way shootout and I'd have to assume their bid is dead in the water. While SEQ is still a better option than CC, there is no bid on the table from there and the Bears could grab that spot if they're genuinely in a position to sieze the day. But I suspect a CC Bears bid is just wishful thinking on our part.

i am from the central coast (now stuck in canbera though).. a new team made from scracth with new colours and name would have the best chance of surviving on the central coast..

re the Bears... central coast folk generall have no afiliation with sydney at all.

All home games would have to be in gosford..

the bear's time has come and gone.

Thank you Manlyfan

As North Sydney Bears fans, what is the general reaction of a possible relocation to the Central Coast? Are many Bears fans for or against the idea? How many do you think will make the trip north? Or will it turn more fans away from the game/Bears? And if it does happen do you think the CC Bears should try and keep a foot in North Sydney or do you think they should solely concentrate on Central Coast with regards to junior clubs etc?

The Central Coast blew their only chance. You are marked forever ... as sh*tting in the face of the NRL. You've got buckleys, unless there is a big enough movement to piss News Filth off ... get up off your arse then ffs !! I will only be too happy to join you in your movement. I marched for Souffs when it mattered, even though 100% of their fans didnt understand what Nick did for them, but at least they are still alive ... The Roosters realised it wouldnt be the same without our biggest enemy ... meh, they'll always hate us anyway.

A team would be moving there, the Bears, they should be in the comp now. The only reason why the NRL want a Sydney team to move there is because they dont want to have to give another team a grant.

When you think about which state or country should get another team NSW does not come to mind.
Relocation/merger is the only way it will happen for CC.

NSWRL evolved into the nrl.

have a think about what that means

if easts were the weakest sydney club would you agree they move?
Maybe you should think about your post.

The NSWRL did not evolve into the NRL. ARL (the very same ARL that was around nearly 100 years ago) took control of the Australian domestic competition in 1994. The NSWRL still stands as it did 100 years ago.

The NRL is the partnership of the ARL and News Ltd.

Nice try Dally but you cannot pull wool over my eyes, if you're not sure of what you're talking about don't make it up because people on here will pick it to pieces.

As for the Roosters, I have said numerous times that if there were a criteria put in place for Sydney clubs and it so happened that my team did not make that criteria I would accept that and support whatever action they take excluding annexing from the competition.

Actually it is available for other areas.

The 8million is available to any clubs thats re-locates into a 'strategically identified area', that is not limited to the Central Coast, its only a media beat up that it is. Get your facts straight Dally.

Folks in very recent times there appears to be a slight movement of the goal posts on this issue. The NRL are asmitting that there plan for a Sydney Club to take the $8 mil and relocate is virtually not going to happen - however the NRL believes the CC is still a possibility for inclusion. It's an suttle but important recent admission IMO.

Also have a good look though the Big League this week :-k

nice try at missing the point.

it meant that the nrl is sydney centric for a reason. because if came about from the old NSWRL competition. since it was the most successful, so it has the most clubs now

I did not miss the point. You can only work with the hand your dealt, in this case I was dealt a hand full of baloney and exposed your BS.

Yes the NRL is Sydney centric. For a reason, yes...a good reason though? No. Rugby league is stronger in areas outside of Sydney, and until the NRL get out of their Sydney centric ways they will continue to lag behind the AFL in national exposure.

yes you have probably been working too much with your hand.

until the AFL gets higher TV ratings nationally than RL, im perfectly happy with how the game is going.

in terms of TV ratings, RL is strongest in sydney easily.

Ratings or no ratings, at the end of the day the AFL get more money than we do and have national exposure. Hold on to those ratings close to your heart, as they mean nothing when we don't have the money to fund teams in places that well and truly need and want a RL team to call their own (Perth, Wellington, SW QLD, Sunshine Coast, Central QLD, PNG).

Thanks for the potshot too, I guess thats all you have when you get spotted out as being a BS artist.

I'm personally an opponent to the Central Coast getting a 'new' franchise. I do believe there are too many teams in NSW...

... but then I think of all the good publicity which could be generated. The Bears. A club 100 years old. There since the begining, screwed by Manly and the NRL, making a heroic comeback. A historic club, fighting back.

Bring them back in at the same time as the Reds - another punted club, albeit with less history - and I reckon the NRL-bashing tide could be turned in the media.

At least temporarily.

And they would need a strong leagues club/financial strategy because if Newcastle is in strife, then the Coast probably would be too.

May as well bring the Jets and Glebe back if you want to bring Norths back for the same reasons, they were screwed over by the league and clubs.

higher ratings means sfa if you don't use it.
it's like having a massive wang but the guy with the needle dick still shags more chix than you.
and, proportionately, sydney would quite easily be the weakest of the RL heartlands.
take friday night's tv figures for instance:
sydney (population 4 million) - 345 000 = 8.625%
brisbane (population 2 million) - 257 000 = 12.85%
throw in regional nsw (2.5 million) and regional queensland (2 million) ratings (they'll at least match sydney's) and the supposed "strongest" RL area is looking pretty ordinary.
