It was 97...hardly the best year to go by. And tried for 1 year is BS.they tried it in 97. it didnt work
want Inglis's jumper go buy a lol@soufs jersey and get a 3 on it
No, clubs name a 25-man squad at the start of the season. Some clubs give numbers to juniors that are outside of the 25 but are still part of the first grade squad, while others just give these players numbers if they are called up to play. Equally mid-season signings are just added on to the next available number. The numbers have to go consecutively, so you don't end up with stupid numbers like 99, and usually the numbers denote standing within the squad (for example the first choice 5/8 will be given number 6, interchange props will be given 15-16 etc). However, there are a couple of players who like to have their own number. For example, Jamal Fakir of Catalans always wears no 22, Ryan McGoldrick wears 23, David Solomona wears 26 etc. An NFL style system with players wearing 0-99 would be stupid, but the system used in Super League is much better than the 1-17 IMO.Really, I thought they just got allocated a jersey number based on their number in the squad/in order of appearance?
Like they dont get to choose, the top team is still 1-17, and there isnt any 99's running around?
So why wouldnt we have thier names as well? if it was to solve I.D.
But Fans and Commentators would soon ID the players with thier own players...its not that hard...
I don't think Inglis's jersey would fit you BM
Firstly, this notion that just because the US does something then we can't is petulant and childish. Secondly, it's not just US sports, AFL does it, Soccer all over the world does it.Why don't we just change Australia's name to the United States of Australia while we're at it?
It's not about fixing it's about improving. If it aint broke...don't fix it.
It's not about fixing it's about improving.
zero real disadvantages.
".
All stupid reasons. If Thurston wants to wear 6 under this system, NOONES STOPPING HIM.ok so the sportstore orders 20 of each players jersey then? "we don't have any inglis ones but can i interest you in a sutton jersey?".
what do you do if you make x amount of a players jersey (e.g. Snowden) who then announces he's leaving at the end of the year? how many do you think you're going to sell? That English club Mason went to is now elft with a shitload of jersey's with mason's name and number on them, how many people are gonna buy them?
fans associate players by their numbers anyway, the bigger players are well known by their numbers, f**k me even players of the past are referred to by their numbers. when they talk about the parra 7 they're not talking about jeff robson
even players have stuck by the traditional numbers when given the opportuinty and thurston has talked about wearing the 6 for qld, because of the meaning behind wearing the 6.
the argument that "i wont wear a jersey with a number on it because other people don't know that Slater is #1 for melbourne" is ridiculous. if some nuffie who doesnt follow league doesnt know who wears number 6 for wests then who the f**k cares?
