Channel 9 - same old, same old

With the fantastic football being played by most sides in the opening two rounds of the competition, you would have thought that channel would reflect this and show these sides on free to air.

With the mass cleanout at TCN, you would have thought that we would getter a fairer representation by no, still after 7 rounds or 14 matches, the Raiders will stillbe waiting to make any appearance at all. Even though this is shocking, even worse is the games they will be showing instead.

Round 7:
Knights v Tigers
Bulldogs v Raiders
Eels v Broncos - Friday night
Cowboys v Storm
Sea Eagles v Souths
Roosters v Dragons
Warriors v Panthers

Guess who 9 are showing on Sunday?

chickens v dragons is on anzac day i presume.

and seeing channel 9 only gets a hardon from the knights, eels, donkeys and chickens i would imagine it would be knights v tigers.

Channel 9 only get a hard-on from ratings figures and advertising revenue, particularly now with new management and the Big fella playing a more active role.
So I guess the answer lies in that, except I can,t see that it is necessary to program 4 weeks ahead paricularly in the first half of the season when a team can go from last to first in 4 weeks.

El Duque got it, Manly v Souths, what a disgrace.

Out of all the possible matches listed, that's most likely to provide the worst possible match. Channel nine stated last year they don't play favourites and program teams on free to air depending on their form, so how can you claim that reason for two teams that haven't even won any games.

This is probably how the conversation went at TCN,

Fatty: Hey boss, when are you going to get us on tv?
Boss: i don't know, they haven't really shown anything in the trials and lost to the cowboys.
Fatty: but we have to get some exposure to our sponsors, how about round 7 against the bunnies?
Boss: i don't know, the Bulldogs v Raiders looks tempting with the team last year that won most matchesversus current premiership leaders.
Fatty: You know Souths, every loves Souths. We might even get Sarah O'hare to do some publicity shots.
Boss: Fatty you made a compelling argument; i think we'll get the Eagles on air.

I don't mind so much because i'll most likely be going down to the match but any match on free to air is worth a fortune to a club with regards to sponsorship and general brand awareness. The Raiders haven't been playing on a level playing field in this regard for at least 5 years.

I looked at the list, decided which would be the worst game and picked the rarebuts vs silvertails and lo and behold ............ bingo.

Last year, the Warriors were the amended minor premiers. As I recall they appeared onFTA 3 times, (or was it twice?) until the finals rounds.

I know for a fact that the one and only time the Raiders were on FTA was the 8th vs 1st semi-final.

I think the dysfunctional clubs such as Souths and Manly in whatever was their guise last year had 3 or 4 times the appearences that the warriors got.

Since the Warriors were playing the shags this week, it is a great disappointment to me that they failed to make it 3 from 3 main Sunday games. Playing Sat, at least the commentators won't be those halfwits Costo and clowns.

us melbournians are used to being screwed by nine, thankgod i have my foxtel.

the storm by round 7 will have consolidated themselves on top of the premiership table, the cowboys will be startled by our ''shock and awe'' tactics.

Channel nine must be doing handstands over their decision to show the blockbuster between the bottom ranked sides (Souths v Manly, round 7)while Foxtel gets the call of a top of the table clash (Raiders v Dogs)in front of crowd of 20k No wonder Gary Burns and co pissed off to Seven quicksmart.

It seems nine contacted the NRL to see if they could swap the games but Fox refused to give up the call and rightfully so but it has cost the Raiders dearly with no one looking to sponsor them because of a lack of FTA coverage.

The sooner someone else picks up the FTA rights to league, the better off we'll all be. Same goes for Radio rights. 2GB's coverage is fast following that of nine with coverage of only two games a weekend now. The NRL need to ensure every game is covered live bar Friday night and give the rights to several different radio stations. I'm sick of the 2GB monopoly and Hadley's discretion over which games are covered. Poor old Melbourne don't get any coverage because Hadley doesn't like Ribot so the fans are the ones who suffer.

I think it's time for an editorial.

LOL at Midas:D

I think a transfer to Melbourne for Hadley would be very beneficial for his career....say like Steve Price from 3aw to 2ue....

Bet he wouldn't leave here in one piece though! Storm supporters absolutely hate his guts, never mind Ribot.

Apparently Ribot tried to make up with Hadley for the sake of the Storm and league coverage here in Melb.....and Ribot said he would gladly shake hands with Hadley if he broadcast down here, but that arrogant man, flatly refused.....I just wish he would get sacked....he would if he lived in Melbourne....and worked for the afl.....they wouldn;t tolerate him talking about their game like that!

I just want to congratulate channel 9 for leaving their blinkers on. You missed out on screening a great game between the raiders and the dogs.Congratulations to fox sports for standing their ground on this, i hope todays game between manly and souths is piss poor and at park standard with shithouse ratings.
