[font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Widnes Vikings, who were relegated from the engage Super League last season, are close to being taken over by Chester City as part of a possible relocation of the Coca-Cola League Two football club to the Halton Stadium.

Steve Vaughan, the Chester chairman who has pumped £4.5 million into the club, wants to help Widnes to bounce straight back into the top flight. An announcement is imminent.

"rescue"! Chester City have crowds of a couple of thousand on a good day... Anyway, if Mr V wanted to move Chester City to Widnes all he'd have to go is ask Halton Council if they fancied another tenant at the ground - which has nothing to do with needing to own a bit of Widnes Vikings.

What is true is that he's been accepted on to the board... first taking up £25,000 of shares, with a promise to buy a further £165,000 of shares within 12 months, and then the option to buy a controlling interest from current chairman Tony Chambers.

Without wanting to have my ass sued off, it seems he's previously been involved with Barrow RLFC and not to unanimous approval...

Is there like a property at the back of this? Something along the lines of sell Chester's ground and build a retail park on it.

Haven't heard of anything along those lines, but it's a pretty reasonable guess - the Deva Stadium is pretty near a small retail park already IIRC
