AUSTRALIAN selector Bob McCarthy has revealed a Test jumper will be the final reward for Manly's Anthony Watmough if he continues his bulldozing form.

Watmough was outstanding in scoring three tries in Manly's 21-8 victory over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday. McCarthy said if Watmough can maintain his form deep into the NRL finals, a Test kit could be his when the Australians play New Zealand in Wellington on October 14.

``We've always had him in our sights,'' McCarthy told The Manly Daily yesterday.
``If Manly keep going the way they are going we'll be looking at him and others. As long as they keep performing, we'd have to look at him seriously.''

McCarthy said there was much to like about Watmough, particularly when he starts pumping his legs. ``He makes a lot of half breaks,'' the South Sydney legend said. ``Once he learns to slip the ball away in a tackle he will be a class player.''

Watmough was not getting carried away yesterday, preferring to focus on what he must improve as the Sea Eagles hurtle towards the finals.

``Defensively I'm still a bit weak,'' he said. ``I've got a bit of work to do there.''

Maybe so, but in attack, the Narrabeen junior was dynamite against the Broncos.

His first try came in the 27th minute thanks to some brilliant work from hooker Michael Monaghan. The second in the 47th minute belonged to half Matt Orford.

The skipper again sent Watmough away in the 66th minute to secure the rare treble.

``It was a good feeling and it's something I'll remember for the rest of my life,'' he said.

Watmough was in a hungry mood again yesterday, polishing off a box of chicken and chips over his lunch break.
